I fully agree with the award, certainly no hard feelings, you did exactly what I hoped somebody would do (but feared they wouldn't). I owe the pair of you a favour in the future, so if you'd ever like to call it in, just ask! Sherurcij (speaker for the dead) 00:13, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

IMO the Pasadena part should be split off, if you have added all the descriptions the list might be to too long. Anyway, nice work and I am translating this into the German WP. :-) --Matthiasb (talk) 10:07, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Exceptional Newcomer Award and...

The Exceptional Newcomer Award
For all the clever stuff and nifty analyses you're doing around T:DYK. Well done Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 13:07, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Seriously, you are doing some good stuff - if you have had no major disputes you may consider running for adminship - gains for the community would be you being able to edit protected pages, and you'd have a large and unusual watchlist compared with other vandal watchers. Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 13:07, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, have a look at this page --> Wikipedia:Administrators and read first. My take on it is that one has to show how one would use the tools to benefit wikipedia. Obviously in this case would be protecting and updating DYK. Question is, is there any other tasks you may be interested in? e.g. looking at WP:RFPP may be of interest. The reason I say this is I would be more than happy to support someones' admin status on participation in DYK alone, though I couldn't speak for the community at large. If there is anything else that interests you let me know. Closing deletion discussions is another area that always needs help, so having a look at that and notability guidelines (WP:N) may be of interest. Have you been in any disputes as such? Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 01:48, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Working on related fields, particularly your areas of strength (articles & DYK), rather than jumping to a whole new scope might help better your chances for RfA if you wish to run in short-term future. - Mailer Diablo 16:24, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • OK, I raised the topic here at Wikipedia_talk:RFA#Testing_the_waters and my impression is that the idea was received fairly positively. The main thing is to think carefully about answers and impress as sober and thoughtful. I am happy to nominate you anytime once you have a read of things and if/when you feel prepared. Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 00:58, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DYK Stats

Thanks for all the hard work. Yes, I think you should bring your idea to the discussion page. --BorgQueen (talk) 17:17, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I split out List of Registered Historic Places in Pasadena. I used to want to do a DYK with that, but don't care to anymore. Yes, I've noticed your progress in Ventura. On one visit a month or two ago I took pics of four Ventura city places: Ventura County Courthouse, the Elizabeth Bard Memorial Hospital, Feraud General Merchandise Store -- now a nice bar, and Emmanuel Franz House, which I guess i should upload. FYI, you can use semi-shortcuts List of RHPs in Ventura, List of RHPs in Pasadena. Cheers, doncram (talk) 17:30, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I'll make an effort now (Friday evening) to locate and upload those pics. Of course i will not mind if you choose nonetheless to visit those places and take further pics, and choose to use those. I will take satisfaction for setting you up to take better pics, by setting a certain standard, limited by time-of-day and other factors in the picture-taking. Watch List of RHPs in Ventura, anyhow. doncram (talk) 02:46, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Todd Palin

Did you get 84,500 by adding the stats for 4th and 5th September? The entry was featured on 4th, and was replaced that day so I don't see why you'd wish to add the stats for the next day. --BorgQueen (talk) 04:46, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Admin

Hey. I'm surprised you haven't been asked to be an admin yet. I'd gladly nominate you at WP:RFA if you're interested. Let me know. (I'd like to see better edit summary usage, but that's not too big a deal) The low projectspace count may also be cause for concern, though again I don't personally mind it. A great nom statement should solve that. Wizardman 17:26, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was going to write one a bit later on today (Oz time), just needed a free time to do it. Cbl62, you'll be fine as long as your answers are thoughtful and cuatious - especially WRT fair use images and some protocol stuff, the answers to which are all over wikipedia wikispace. Deductive fallacy DYK

Generally I myself would find it unacceptable to "approve my own nomination for advancement to the Main Page." (See here.)However, this article and its DYK nomination have already been checked by an independent reviewer, namely JamieS93. See my talk page for evidence of the discussion. As the nomination is soon to expire, and had been expanded as previously discussed, I found it acceptable to pass my own DYK nomination. If you have any problems, please discuss them further with me on my talk page. If you would like to check the article yourself, please do so. As you have experience within the scope of DYK, your input would be greatly appreciated. --Jordan Contribs 06:59, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image source problem with Image:Beverly Hills Hotel, 1911 drawing.jpg

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Beverly Hills Hotel, 1911 drawing.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 19:53, 22 September 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. dave pape (talk) 19:53, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Checking the page history, I now see that User:Melesse erased the information you originally gave. I've restored it (but if you can complete the source citation with article title, page, etc, that would be handy). --dave pape (talk) 19:57, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Congrats, and LAHCM

Hey, congrats about the adminship. I was happy to support your nomination, and thought my timing worked out well in that i was able to put in a strong support directly responding to a weak one and some questions being raised. Glad it worked out.

About the LAHCM list, let's talk at its talk page, moving my response there. doncram (talk) 04:51, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have no idea how I developed that impression! Hahaha, I'm so sorry! I'm sure there must be a female user somewhere who has a similar user name and I just conflated you at some point and never realized I'd done it. I'm glad the RFA went well... I'll admit I was worried when I left my comment (and probably worded it a little too sharply), but I've noticed that sometimes a single comment can get blown way out of proportion at RFA, so I thought my sharp words would help pop that bubble before it got going. It worked or, more likely, the community is more sensible than I give them credit for, but either way I'm happy it ended well and glad we have you on board to help. --JayHenry (talk) 06:14, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

how to archive your talk page

Hey, it's time.  :) I tried to load your talk page while at a public library with a semi-slow internet connection, and it is just too big to ever load. There are complicated other ways to do this, but you can archive a big hunk of this talk by copying the following to that top of your talk page:

{{Archive box|
: [[/Archive 1|Archive 1]]
}}

And then copy and paste as big a chunk as you want. At the top of the archive page, put in {{archive}} to get a nice "this is an archive, don't edit this" template. That's all.

And, I responded about Headey-Handley house at Talk:List of Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monuments in the San Fernando Valley. Cheers, doncram (talk) 00:21, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I am not sure if it should be used for notable track athletes or for notable athletes who also ran track. I am not sure what to do for guys like Braylon Edwards, Desmond Howard and Rob Lytle.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 22:41, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Coordinates

I wrote up some stuff in wp:NRHPMOS about coordinates. See Wikipedia:Obtaining geographic coordinates about getting coords in decimal format from Google maps. That works for creating coords for list-tables. List of octagon houses has examples of coordinates of both decimal and DMS types. To put coordinates into an NRHP infobox, currently we have to convert those to Degrees-Minutes-Seconds format. I'll try editing a couple. Hope this helps, ask followup please. doncram (talk) 05:08, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I added a couple coords, am done for now. Was going to say others have said Google Earth works very well for getting coords. Good luck. doncram (talk) 05:30, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How to

Hi Cbl62, congrats on becoming an admin. I use the "Credit templates" at Template:Did_you_know/Next_update. I click on each article and add {{dyktalk|30 September|2008}} to the talk page. If it is a new talk page I click to not watch it (so as not to clog up my already large watchlist further). I also just use "DYK" as the edit summary.

Then I do the author / nominator notices. It used to be that I would paste in the template by hand, using {{subst:UpdatedDYK|30 September|2008|Article name}} --~~~~ for authors and the similar template for nominators. This time there was a new template <nowiki>Insert non-formatted text here Spoo – Jimbo Wales (give) (tag)</nowiki> which left the notice on the author's page, just had to paste in the article name. I think nominators are still notified by hand. Hope this helps and ask if it is unclear, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 16:02, 30 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Heeyyy you copied that way from me...XD. The main thing now is to make sure you see and hit the 2 "purge" tags, one in the clock template and one above the current DYK hooks after refreshing, otherwise it is pretty easy. If both you and I are around at the time an update needs doing I will ping you. I meant to do it last night but didn't see you actively editing. My time is a bit unpredictable at present.
