Paulo Jorge Sousa Gomes (born March 4, 1975 in Viseu) is a Portuguese footballer currently playing with Académico de Viseu, as a defensive midfielder.

Football career

During his Portuguese career, Gomes represented CD Tondela, Académico de Viseu, A.D. Lousada, Vitória de Guimarães, Sporting Clube de Braga, União Desportiva de Leiria, F.C. Paços de Ferreira and F.C. Penafiel.

He made his first division debut for Guimarães, against S.C. Salgueiros in a 3–2 loss, on 12 September 1998. Coach Zoran Filipović handed him his first chance. Almost ten years later, he contributed with two league matches as Paços achieved an historical UEFA Cup qualification, but finished the season at Penafiel, in the second division.

In 2008–09, Gomes moved abroad, signing with Cypriot outfit Atromitos Yeroskipou joining, among other compatriots, former Leiria defender Hugo Costa. After only one season, he returned to Portugal and Viseu (with the club then in the third level).
