The "Agricultural Chemical Society of Japan" was founded in 1924. Its main objective was contributing to scientific, technological and industrial developments. The organization developed its organizational structure and activities over the next few decades. In 1957 it was officially recognized as a society by the Ministry of Education, Science, Sports, and Culture of Japan. In 1989 the society changed its name to "Japan Society for Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Agrochemistry" (JSBBA).
