Although CURCC and Peñarol coexisted for two years, until the dissolution of the aforementioned institutions in 1915, they never played against each other because CURCC rarely played any matches in that period. This is, of course, disputed by fans of other clubs. Specially by Nacional fans, that deny the continuity between CURCC and Peñarol. The debate reached it's height in 1991, when Peñarol celebrated 100 years, and Nacional published an official document know as "Informe del decanato", written by prestigious jurists and lawyers, where the continuity thesis was disputed using several documents, including the act of CURCC's disolution in 1931. To this day, Peñarol's board of directors fails to provide an answer to this document.

Another club that disputes the continuity thesis is Montevideo Wanderers. In 2002, this institution published a 100 anniversary book, with information about a friendly tournament organized by Wanderers, where the team faced CURCC and Peñarol, who played each other in the same tournament.

Central Uruguay Railway Cricket Club, known as CURCC, but always unofficially known as Peñarol because of the neighbourhood where it was established, was a Cricket and association football club from Uruguay, founded on September 28, 1891 in Montevideo, the country's capital. CURCC was the result of the decision of the British railway company in Uruguay to have a sports club. Because of this fact, the colours of the club were inspired by those of the railway signs.

The club had important achievements in the 1890s and the first decade of the twentieth century, being one of the founders of the Uruguayan League and the AUF.

In 1913 conflicts between the Central Uruguay Railway administrators and the football section directives, led to the breakaway of some members that established Club Atlético Peñarol in 1913, taking the unofficial name of the CURCC (Peñarol) as its official name and establishing it as a purely Uruguayan football club by using the name of the Uruguayan neighbourhood.
