Jindabyne, as viewed from across Lake Jindabyne

Jindabyne (36°24′S 148°37′E / 36.400°S 148.617°E / -36.400; 148.617) is a town in New South Wales, Australia that overlooks Lake Jindabyne near the Snowy Mountains, in Snowy River Shire. It is a popular holiday resort, especially in winter, due to its proximity to ski resorts in the Kosciuszko National Park, including Thredbo and Perisher Blue.

Originally situated on land that is now part of Lake Jindabyne, the township was transferred to its present location in the 1960s due to the damming of the Snowy River as part of the Snowy Mountains Scheme.

It is one of the highest settlements of its size in Australia, at approximately 900 metres above sea level. Light snowfalls sometimes occur during winter; it is one of the few towns in Australia where this happens. Although in mid-July in 2004 and 2005, snow fell up to half a metre following freak snowfalls over a large area of New South Wales.

There is also a 2006 film starring Gabriel Byrne and Laura Linney named Jindabyne, in which a group of fishermen find the body of a girl in the lake, but continue fishing and report their find days later. This story is also the subject of the Paul Kelly song, 'Everything's Turning To White.'
