Santosh Anand is an Indian lyricist who attained success in the 1970s and earned the Filmfare Award for Best Lyricist twice- 1974 and 1982.[1]

Career

Santosh Anand started his career in 1970 through the film Purab Aur Paschim. This film's Soundtrack was composed by Kalyanji Anandji. He wrote "Ek Pyaar Ka Naghma Hain" in 1972 film Shor. It was composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal and sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Mukesh. The film, Roti Kapda Aur Makan its music was tuned by Laxmikant Pyarelal. The songs like "Mehngai Mar Gayi", "Aur Nahin Bas Aur Nahin" and especially "Main Na Bhoolunga", sung by Mukesh. Santosh obtained his first filmfare award for that film.[2]

Santosh Anand started his career in 1970 film Purab Aur Paschim under Kalyanji Anandji. His Soundtracks such as Shor, Roti Kapda Aur Makan, Kranti, Pyaasa Sawan and Prem Rog all had music by Laxmikant Pyarelal. His only collaboration with music directors is limited to L-P.

"Mehngai Mar Gayi","Ek Pyaar Ka Naghma Hain","Main Na Bhoolunga","Ye Galiyan Ye Chaubara","Tera Saath Hain Toh","Megha Re Megha Re" all were sung by Lata. Among male singers, Mukesh and Mahendra Kapoor sang songs penned by him.

Son and Daughter-in-law's Suicide

Santosh Anand's son Sankalp Anand (38) and his wife Naresh Nandini Anand (34) comitted suicide in 16 October, 2014. They jumped before a train with their 7 years old daughter. She was seriously wounded, but escaped. Upon listening that incident, Santosh visited the place and expresses extreme grief. Sankalp wrote a 10 page long suicide note before death in which he clarified the reason of suicide as financial crisis.[5]
