Starje is a village in the Kolonjë District in southeastern Albania.[1] Originally the name was Plakas meaning old in Albanian.[citation needed] It is situated at the foot of the Gramos mountains, about 2 km northeast of Ersekë, and is within walking distance to Albanian-Greek border. The highest peak of Gramos mountain Çuka e Peçit 2,523m(8.278 ft) is near the village.[citation needed] An important forest close to the village is the Llazishta forest, which is known for as a holy forest for the Bektashi faith believers. Here begins one of the largest rivers of Albania that flows into the Adriatic Sea: Osum.
Close to the village at the peak 2.375m high of Gramos can be found the Alpin Lake of Gramos, which is on the Albanian side of the mountain.
