Sialorrhea

Mari Batista/María Elena Batista

María Elena "Mari" Batista currently is Puerto Rico's most notable sports administrator. As the city of San Juan, Puerto Rico's Director of Sports and Recreation, she helped revive the previously underused and dilapidated Hiram Bithorn Stadium, attracting MLB's Opening Day Game in 2001, twenty-two yearly home games of the now defunct Montreal Expos (now known as the Washington Nationals) in 2003 and 2004 and the 2006 Baseball World Classic games. In the summer of 2006 she brought NBA's "Basketball without Borders" program to San Juan. In September 2006, Mayor Jorge Santini inaugurated the San Juan Municipal Sports Magnet School. In December, another of her projects, the $28 million world-class San Juan Natatorium opened to the public and attracted winter training from over 10 stateside college swim teams, including the West Point Military Academy. What is most notable of this particular Batista accomplishment is her success in getting the mayor and the city council to make this major investment even though there was no major sports event over the horizon that required such a facility. In early 2007, the first phase of San Juan's Golf complex, a reuse of the city's former sanitary landfill, opens to the public.

Prior to her career as a sports administrator, she was a well-known competitive swimmer, having represented Puerto Rico in several Central American and Caribbean Games, PanAm Games and the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. After graduating from Puerto Rico's Sacred Heart University in 1994, she served as the Sports Director of Puerto Rico's Department of Education Sports Magnet School, obtained an MBA and began teaching business at Turabo University in Caguas, Puerto Rico. She is the daughter of former Superior Court Judge Elpidio Batista, who served a stint as President of the Puerto Rico Winter Baseball League, is married to Senate President Kenneth McClintock and is the mother of two children.

Cincinnati Red Boyz

Cincinnati Red Boyz is an organization of rappers from Bond Hill, Ohio. The group was organized in 2004 by Walt Feez and Prince Al. Prince Al was basically the producer at the time the group began. Al was heading each of Feez's sessions, controlling the beats. Almost a month passed Feez was selling his "mixtapes" at Purcell Marian High School in Cincinnati. He caught up with a 'hood friend named Gutta. Gutta was known for his great rapping abilities and his switching of song's chorus.

One year ago Walt Feez moved to Memphis, TN, because his mother got a better job there. As the Red Boyz continued to formulate an old face appeared on the scene, he was going by DomiNati at the time and his albums were going platinum---at Walnut Hills High School. Gutta and DomiNati hadn't spoken to each other until November of 2006. A mixtape had come of discussion and they began to work on it during the Cincinnati Public Schools "Chrismas Break"

in December. The now D-Choppa(aka DomiNati) was attending Hughes Center High School had improved his rapping skills after being in a new enviroment compared to that of Walnut Hills High.

Today, there is speculation of rapper Harecutt joining the group but he has not completely met the satisfaction of a group member. The Red Boyz have big plans for the future.

Bianca's rape storyline

The rape of Bianca Montgomery was a controversial storyline in the popular soap opera All My Children. On July 8th, 2003 teenage Bianca was raped by the soap's villian Michael Cambias. Shortly thereafter, Michael turned up dead and another storyline about his murder began. Eventually, it was revealed that Bianca herself killed Michael in self defense. Biance ended up pregnant as a result of the rape, which spawned into All My Children's drawn out baby switch storyline.

Although the storyline brought high ratings and earned Bianca's portrayer Eden Riegel a daytime emmy, it was extremely controversial. Bianca was one of the first open lesbians on daytime television, and before the rape, was paired with another woman named Lena. The couple was surprisingly popular. They were named among top couples in Soap Opera Digest polls for many weeks in a row. Despite their many fans, Lena and Bianca exchanged little affection onscreen. The duo shared only one kiss before the rape storyline, and although they spent the night together, it was only shown through a "morning after" scene.
All My Children was criticized for sending the message to viewers that two woman in a consenting relationship was too much for television, but a violent act like rape was okay. Fans also complained that AMC was using the rape as a tool to disrupt Bianca and Lena's relationship. The rape would force Bianca not to indulge in affection or sex with Lena for many months.
Head writer Megan McTavish defended the accusations by saying Bianca's rape was because she was beloved by all of Michael's enemies, not because of her sexual orientation. However, fans claimed she was not addressing the real issue. Many fans believed that even if Bianca was not raped because she was gay, the storyline was still unintentionally homophobic because Bianca was allowed to be raped, but barley allowed to share affection with Lena.

Jerry Abstract

Seattle-via-Detroit DJ/producer Jerry Abstract has come into his own this year with a DJ set in Portland that overshadowed Ellen Allien’s, appearances at Detroit’s Fuse-In fest, and releases for Germany's Shitkatapult Records. For that company, Abstract generates brilliant slabs of knarz-techno, which sounds like a motorboat speeding through molasses—very rigorously. When he DJs as a resident at Krakt or elsewhere, Abstract delivers radical techno and electro bangers that know no other mode than peak.

Project IC

News Article

KOTA KINABALU, Jan 19 (Bernama) -- Former Internal Security Act (ISA) detainee Hassnar Ebrahim shocked a lot of people, particularly the locals, when he exposed a Malaysian identification card (IC) scam or known as Project IC in Sabah, during a recent interview with a local newspaper.

The locals here are stunned as many of them who reside in the state's interiors have yet to own the sophisticated Malaysian IC or MyKad, but based on Hassnar's claims, it seems that the card was easily accessible to foreigners.

While Project IC is not a new issue in Sabah, it continues to be debated by many who gave their opinions and expressed concern as the matter is related to the issue of illegal immigrants in Sabah, which is perceived as the mother of all social woes in the state.

Hassnar, an entreprenuer, confessed that he unknowingly became involved with others who made it possible for thousands of foreigners to secure the Malaysian ICs.

The former Sandakan district chief, while refusing police's request to make a statement on the issue, however, is willing to give testimony in court.

Hassnar was detained under the ISA on Aug 9, 1998 for two months, and then placed under house arrest for two years in Sandakan from Sept 6, 1998. He was also among the material witnesses during the Likas election petition trial in 1999.

Meanwhile, Sabah Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy chairman Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan claimed that currently there are 1.7 million foreigners in Sabah, including 600,000 who possessed the ICs.

Responding to the allegation, former Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak challenged Dr Jeffrey to list the names of the 1.7 million people but the latter had not done so so far.

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said the state government viewed the matter very seriously and was doing all it could to solve the matter.

He asked those who exposed the issue to come forward and cooperate with the police.

"Do not simply talk through the newspapers. Cooperate with the authorities," said Musa, who also directed the National Registration Department (NRD) and the Immigration Department to explain the issue to the public in the interest of all.

Following the expose, Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Hassan had requested Hassnar to assist the police in the investigation.

He said that the police could not finish the investigation into Project IC without the cooperation from those with information.

As such, the police were putting Hassnar's statement on the issue on record to speed up investigations, he said.

Mohd Mokhtar said that the police would not arrest Hassnar or anyone without sufficient proof to link them with the criminal activity.

Several residents here met by Bernama admitted that they were from the Philippines and had secured the Malaysian IC through the said project.

"True. Project IC exists. I secured my IC from the project in the early 1980s," said Fuad Arif from Pulau Tawi-Tawi, Philippines, who now resides in Kampung Sabang in Menggatal near here with his family.

According to him, he came to Sabah in the middle of the 1970s with his parents, and they had stayed at Pulau Mantanani before moving to the village.

"After living here for several years, I finally received my Malaysian IC in 1984. At that time, a middleman came to our village to distribute the cards.

"I still remember the middleman coming to every house in the village to fill up forms for the IC and collect fees of about RM10 for stamp duty.

"One of the documents used to support the IC application was the late birth certificate registration letters," he told Bernama here.

Fuad said that once the ICs were ready, the middleman would return to the village to distribute the cards to the residents, who were immigrants and had lived there for a long time.

In fluent Bahasa Melayu, he said that his family believed that they would have a better future in Sabah compared to Tawi-Tawi in the Philippines.

"There is no unrest here. We are free to roam anywhere we want. We can go to Tanjung Aru, Mount Kinabalu or Kota Kinabalu," said Fuad, who is the holder of the IC bearing registration number H0504933.

Earlier, Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) secretary-general Radin Malleh had questioned the authencity of ICs with numbers starting from H0288001 to H03840000, involving 96,000 holders; H0480001 to H05760000 (96,000); H0609601 to H0610000 (400); H0658001 to H0658200 (200); H0658401 to H0659000 (600); and H0666001 to H0666400 (400), saying he had taken up the matter in the Dewan Rakyat when he was the Member of Parliament for Tenom.

Another Kampung Sabang resident, Jamili Bungsu, 53, said that the issuing of ICs under the project was rampant in the early 1980s until 1985.

"Just imagine, in the early 1980s at Kampung Pondo in Pulau Gaya (near Kota Kinabalu), there were only about 10 houses there. But the numbers increased immediately during that time to almost 500 squatter homes whose occupants were immigrants from the Philippines.

"It was not their fault that there were locals who were willing to arrange ICs for them. Not many knew who were the masterminds behind the operation. It might have been done by those with high ranks as it was not easy to make an IC," he said.

A man from Kampung Pulau Gaya, Jaidy Kamlun, 26, said most immigrants who secured the ICs through the project had been living in the country for a long time and were involved in the state's development projects.

"In Pulau Gaya alone, there are more than 10,000 immigrants from a neighbouring country and most of them were helped by 'locals' to get the ICs.

"Of course the immigrants will grab the golden opportunity as it requires no documents. Furthermore, they want to stay here. Most of them now have MyKads and can vote. As far as I know, the project not only benefited Filipinos. Those from Indonesia, India and China also profited from it. The modus operandi was the same, that of through a middleman," he said.

He said that it was unfair to link immigrants holding the ICs with criminal activities in Sabah.

"Perhaps some of them are involved in criminal activities or social problems but not all. The society's perception is inaccurate as we came here to earn a living.

"Our parents have lived in Sabah for a long time, and as a new generation, we do not desire to return to the Philippines. We are like the locals who love and are loyal to Malaysia," he said.

Jaidy also supported the government's efforts to send back illegal immigrants to their home countries, and prevent them from re-entering Malaysia.

"Let bygones be bygones. There is no need to determine whose fault it was. Let's work together towards a better Sabah," said Jaidy, who received his education up to Form Five in Malaysia.

His views were echoed by his village friend Tamskie Abdul Said, 36, who said that until now, nobody knew who were the masterminds of the IC project that involved the Pulau Gaya's residents.

"Project IC was different from those involving fake identification cards. The immigrants preferred Project IC as fake ICs did not allow voting rights and the holder would be repatriated if caught by the police." he said.

Several quarters including political parties and non-governmental organisations in Sabah have expressed concern over the existence of Project IC as it could threaten the country's security and deny genuine citizens employment opportunities as blue collar workers.

In this regard, they appealed to the government to set up a Royal Inquiry Commission to get to the bottom of the issue and ways to resolve it.

The state and Federal governments are also aware of the illegal immigrant problem in Sabah.

Even the Barisan Nasional component parties including the PBS, United Pasok Momogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko), Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), Liberal Democratic party (LDP) and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) were vocal in expressing their concern over Project IC.

Abstractica

Abstractica is a freeware puzzle game by MJK, with 250 levels. The game is very simple; on each level, there a picture, maybe with some text, that you have to figure out. In the bottom of the screen there's a box, where you have to write your answer, a skip button, and a tip button. You can only skip three levels, and you start with 15 tips. For each 20 levels you complete, you 3 more tips.

The game is very hard and you have to think alot. The answer is logical, maybe more simple than you thought. Just as an example, level 5 says "the answer is very easy" and there's a picture of a banana. The tip says "Read that text carefully :D". I'm sorry for ruining this level, but the answer is just "very easy"

Hector O'Neill

Hector O'Neill has served as mayor of the city of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico for the past thirteen years. Elected in 1993 in a special election after the death of Alejandro "Junior" Cruz, he has been reelected in 1996, 2000 and 2004 by ever wider victory margins. As mayor, he has rebuilt the city's downtown area and attracted Univision's Puerto Rico operations to headquarter there, including the Univision television affiliate, AM and FM radio stations, their Telefutura TV station and their music company. He developed Puerto Rico's first, and so far only, municipal expressway, which gives access to Guaynabo's rural communities and is developing the island's first municipal forest, with land holdings which already exceed a square mile.

During the 1990's, he headed the influential Puerto Rico's Mayors Federation and remains one of the most outspoken supporters of municipal autonomy.

In 2001, he was named Person of the Year by Caribbean Business weekly business newspaper, which rarely selects an elected official for such an honor.

Prior to becoming mayor, O'Neill served as a municipal assemblyman in Guaynabo, a legislative aide and a senator. Elected to the Senate in 1988, he was reelected in 1992 and served in 1993 as chairman of its Nominations Committee.

He is married to the former Alba Alvelo and is the father of eight sons.

Daisy Rose Pearson , A young musician from West Sussex, England is quickly spreading through the internet with her song "Back into his arms". Originally appearing in a podcast inspired by friends. She has studied music for most of her life and has a very unique personality which is seen through the podcast and her music. The original podcast was a semi poor quality mp3 but the music itself was of a high standard. 2 recent video recordings of "Back into his arms" have popped up around the internet on websites including Youtube under the name "staticism" New songs are in the works and fans wait eagerly for her next podcasts.

"Back into his arms" Lyrics

you're walking away from me again,
right into his arms
you told me you left your heart right here in my hand
And what i hear i, i just don't understand

'Cause everyday you're moving closer and i want to move away
you're everything and nothing but i can't have you any other way
i don't know how but when you look at me you somehow see into my brain
i don't know how much longer i can take this pain

slipping through my fingers
tainting all my dreams
spinning me in circles
and i'm tearing at the seams

you're walking away from me again
it's getting kinda tired
you tell me that you love me and i trust you every time
but you're still walking

'cause everyday you're moving closer and i want to move away
you're everything and nothing but i can't have you any other way
i don't know how but when you look at me you see right through
right through me back to you.
