James Smith (born October 17 1985 in Liverpool) is an English footballer, currently playing for Ross County F.C., on loan from Liverpool. A tough, versatile defender who can play at left-back or in the centre, Smith is a product of the club's academy and signed his first professional contract in 2005.

He was named in the first-team squad for the first time on 25 October 2006, on the bench in a League Cup tie against Reading and made his first appearance for the club, coming on as a 74th minute substitute for Lee Peltier. On January 2, 2007, he joined Scottish side Ross County on loan for the remainder of the season[2]
