Check your facts please

Please check the edit history of a page before you accuse me or anyone else of vandalism. I removed several entries referring to "Dragon Private Parts" from Chinese Dragon and did not add any content. Fighting vandalism is not a crusade; get your facts straight before you hurl abuse in other people's faces.07:15, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

You did not revert to the correct version, but I removed the entire vandalism. That you didn't make vandalism is correct, I made the mistake to revert just your edit and not the edits by other IPs, but I cut out the mistake. Greetings, —DerHexer (Talk) 10:13, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don't call me a vandal kthx

Hi, before accusing me of vandalism, please check the page I supposedly 'vandalised'. I brought it from from: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Sushi&oldid=127989056 ..to: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Sushi&oldid=127989444 ..which I think we can all agree does not constitute vandalism. Perhaps there was something I missed, but I certainly didn't vandalize. Spend more time actually checking, and less time trying to get your revert-count up. Thanks! --85.227.145.166 14:05, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't reverted there, but your edits here. And these are vandalism. ;) —DerHexer (Talk) 18:42, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You sent me a message telling me that edits I had done to the Berlin Wall article appeared to be vandalism... honestly, I don't remember ever even editing that article. Dx Any editing I've ever done I do to fix errors in spelling or punctuation. Your little message about my apparent vandalism shocked me so much I just had to reply. I'd never vandalize my beloved Wikipedia. 70.143.50.176 20:53, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

company

To Whom It May Concern:

I am just looking for some help. I am the web director for a company called Xyience. I have a wiki username Tk421lj and had recent updated an article on Wikipedia about my company.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xyience

I tried to create a non-biased article that was based on fact. That article has recently been modified by someone who is trying to slander the company. Rather than stating the facts, this person is using Wikipedia for personal gain and self promotion. He has written sensational, tabloid style articles about the company and is posting them on the internet. He is attempting to use Wikipedia to promote his tabloid internet blogs. I have since removed his slander from the Wiki article, but he continues to modify and update the article with content that is not acceptable for a Wiki article.

What can I do about this? Is there anything that can be done, further than me checking the Wiki article and editing the inappropriate content?

Thanks for your help.

Palestinian Nationalism page

You recently reversed my changes to the "Palestinian Nationalism" page on the basis that my erasure was vandalism. The section I erased (maps and facts) was added about a month ago. It was a disorganized and biased section in an otherwise quality article. The section does not cite its sources and is rife with factual inaccuracies and agenda-filled historical revisionism. Furthermore, I erased, rather than edited this section, because it did not relate to the rest of the article. With considerable cleanup, this section belongs in the "History of Palestine" or "Palestinian History" article, but it has no place in "Palestinian Nationalism." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.6.184.224 (talkcontribs) —DerHexer (Talk) 16:20, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Apparent Vandalism

Please do not accuse me of vandalism as you seem to do rather a lot. I was removing a selection of what was clearly advertising speak, if you do understand wikipedia you will know that it did not fit in with the prose guidelines, amongst other things. I am concerned about the removal of these warnings from the main talk page of that IP address. There is an ongoing case involving a banned editor who continues to edit using that IP address and some of the messages were part of ongoing instances of inappropriate behavior. What is the precedent for archiving the talk pages of anonymous IP addresses? (Especially when there are that many postings on the page to begin with?) Nposs 20:47, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, as a recent changes patroller, I have to tell you this; after someone gave him a last level warning due to vandalism, you started back from level 2. Based on the information given here, he is liable to be reported here as "the user has been warned thoroughly". Viewing his contributions, he has been vandalizing various articles within a continuous time frame, and is therefore subject for blocking. Right now it is a bit too late to block him(as the warning level was reset), but next time, do not hestitate to report such people to the AIV. Optakeover 12:34, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I know this. I visited here the AIV for some hundred times (and on de.wp some thousand times). But on I User_talk:209.114.143.5 saw another date by MER-C (and another time 'cause here is 14:46 o'clock). … Because there is so much vandalism which I revert, it might happen that a warning is not correct. More important is that the vandalism is reverted. —DerHexer (Talk) 12:45, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don't replace articles. If you want to add deletion templates you are allowed to do so. But please don't remove articles by yourself. The best is to expand an article. —DerHexer (Talk) 13:44, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Check history on articles that are vandalized

You probably already know this, but it is a good idea to check the history of any article that has been vandalized. Often, a vandal will make several successive edits, sometimes using a different IP / username.

You recently reverted a version of Visual Basic, where the editor made two bad edits. Your reversion restored an earlier, but still vandalized, article. Actually, in this case, there were three different editors (or one using three IP/username) that did a bunch of vandalizing.

I use pop-ups, which allow me to hover over the (diff) link and see what changes were made. You might have a similar ability with the tools you use. It makes spotting the beginning of vandalism a lot easier. ;^)

Thanks for helping make Wikipedia a better place! wrp103 (Bill Pringle) (Talk) 19:39, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Same sort of problem here with your edit [5] to Cansei de Ser Sexy. Please check the edit history, especially as people will tend to revert future vandalism to the last logged in user edit. All the best. Mmoneypenny 19:15, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Revert it and don't mind: I do hundreds of reverts fighting vandalism and because Wikipedia is a community project we should divide the work: I revert blatant vandalism, blankings and so on and you can control me, if I'm just doing a normal revert 'cause I had not the time to watch all histories of the articles I reverted. Thanks, —DerHexer (Talk) 19:23, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Revert problem

Hi, please take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Cascading_Style_Sheets&action=history -- your revert did not revert half of the article. Bug in the system? --Yurik 15:11, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It might happen that in the same second I reverted and the user deleted another section. Greetings, —DerHexer (Talk) 15:21, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry!

Hey buddy. I just wanted to give you a heads up that I accidentally reported you to WP:AIV, while using Vandalproof. It was entirely by accident, and I truly apologize. I removed it seconds later. I was attempting to report an anonymous IP, and clicked the wrong button. I believe all is well, but I wanted to add prove of my mistake on your talk page. Tut mir leid. Jmlk17 20:20, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Look at your talk page. ;) It's no problem for me. —DerHexer (Talk) 20:21, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like you caught the mistake at the same time.  :). Thanks for the understanding. Jmlk17 20:23, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I just wanted to thank you. I've made mistakes in the past, and for far too many people around the site, being human in that regard is a mortal sin. You seem to take it all in stride, are very relaxed about the project while still contributing quite well, and that is very refreshing. Vielen dank! Jmlk17 20:49, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting vandalism

Thank you for reverting some of the vandalism done this day to "James Douglas (Governor)". When reverting vandalism, though, please take care not to miss part of the damage done, as you did in this case. Because vandals often work piece-meal, it is needful to look through a vandalised page's history so as to find the last "clean" editing. Missing part of the vandalism can result in "buried" vandalism, which can linger in an article for a long time. In this case, two different vandals (or two different IPs, at least ) were at it, making matters less straightforward than usual, and thus calling for more than ordinary care. Please take this advice in the friendly spirit in which it is given, but please do heed it. Thank you.

See this. Greetings. —DerHexer (Talk) 21:50, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm... I'm not quite sure what you're saying there, but it seems to be that you won't be bothered to check the page histories when reverting vandalism. If so, I'm sorry to find that out, and I think it is a mistake on your part that, for the reasons which I and others have set out, takes away from the worth of your otherwise admirable vandal-fighting work. I hope that you will reconsider. You are quite right, though, that the choice is wholly yours, and I'm sure no one was seeking to "control" you, but only to offer a collegial suggestion. At any rate, I know that that is all I meant by raising the matter with you, and I hope you have not taken offence. Again, please think about the matter. Beyond that, I now leave it with you. -- Lonewolf BC 04:28, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Now that I know your first language is not English, I think I might have misunderstood you a little. Anyhow, as I said before, I hope you'll think about looking at the page histories when reverting vandalism, but I recognise that the choice is all yours (so don't think I'm trying to give you orders). Peace and well met. -- Lonewolf BC 18:23, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, but I'll try to improve it. —DerHexer (Talk) 22:42, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fishing revisions

First of all, I would like to thank you for actively guarding our Fishing Project. I've seen all your efforts of protecting the Fishing article from those harmful vandals. I've made a major revision from all those revisions/reverts that were made previously by bots and other wikipedians because some of the important information there were lost despite the effort of each and everyone to guard the said article. Thanks and more power! Bu b0y2007 01:55, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

sami

You marked the page on Sami Brady Roberts for speedy with a tag of "copyright infringement of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sami_Brady" That's undoubtedly a slip--you probably mean of some other page, since that's the WP page itself. I removed the tag to avoid confusion--just redo it with the correct link to the copied material.DGG 20:37, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copy and pasting an article inside the wikipedia without mentioning the (five) main editors and copying the history of the old article into the new one('s talk page) is a copyright violation. Articles should be moved. Please restore the speedy deletion tag. Thanks, —DerHexer (Talk) 21:55, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hadn't realized all that--It sounds like straight-forward vandalism --But is there a version that should be restored? I don't think the intention is to remove the article all together. I'll look here.DGG 22:12, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The new article has to be deleted completely and no version should be restored. Of course, the original article has to be reverted to the old version and the author of the new article should be given a hint. Greetings, —DerHexer (Talk) 22:37, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stuart Campbell

Hi, I removed a bunch of unsourced information from Stuart Campbell's page. It's been sitting for ages with that content, all of which is unsourced. Fans of the man insist that the content should not be removed, but refuse to do the required rewrites and fact-finding work themselves, preferring instead to leave a page with content that may as well be fiction and hundreds of [citation needed] tags. Under the rule of "verifiability" I removed it. Is that vandalism?

I found this under vandalism: "An example of blanking edits that could be legitimate would be edits that blank all or part of a biography of a living person. Wikipedia is especially concerned about providing accurate and non-biased information on the living, and this may be an effort to remove inaccurate or biased material."
