Corinthian F.C. (Kent)
- This club should not be confused with the pre-World War II Corinthians F.C., their post-war successors Corinthian-Casuals F.C., Brazil's Sport Club Corinthians Paulista or Corinthians F.C. (Isle of Man).
Corinthian Football Club is an English association football club formed in 1972 [1] at Fawkham in Kent by a millionaire builder named Ron Billings, mainly to give his sons a club to play for. They fielded an adult side which played at the Gay Dawn Farm sports complex [2] and enjoyed a sudden short run of success in the 1980s. The club now exists only in the form of youth teams playing in various age groups, with several members of the Billings family still involved.
History
The club's adult team played in the Kent League in the early 1980s but were promoted in 1985 to the Southern League Southern Division, at the time a level 7 league in the English football league system. [3] In their first season in the league they finished a creditable fifth, but subsequent seasons saw them slide down the table until they finished bottom and were relegated to the Kent League in 1991. [3] They subsequently slipped into the Kent League Division Two (renamed Division One in 1998), where they played until at least 2003-04,[4] but now appear to have folded their adult team, although the club continues to field sides at various youth levels. Notable former players
Notable players to play for Corinthian include the former Watford and Gillingham star Andy Hessenthaler, who played at Gay Dawn as a teenager. [5]
