Portal:College football/Selected content/Nominations
The Selected Content for the College football Portal is rotated on a weekly basis. To be nominated, an article must be of high quality (at least a B-class on the assessment scale) and must relate to the topic of college football. Articles of GA or FA class do not need to go through the nomination process, just add them to the approved nomination section. A picture must be of high quality and high resolution (at least 800x600 or 600x800) and must also relate to a topic of college football. In addition, a picture must have a free-use license (no fair use images). We will rotate between articles on a specific team or recent player/coach and articles on a concept, play, tradition, or historic figure. During the college football season (from the first week of September to the last week of December), articles will be rotated on a weekly basis. During the offseason, articles will be rotated on a monthly basis.
How to nominate
To nominate an article, please use the following format:
===[[Name of article]]=== (Reason for nominating) --~~~~ *'''Support'''- (reason) --~~~~ *'''Oppose'''- (reason) --~~~~
If you are wanting to nominate for a specific week, please add that to the reason for nomination.
Nominations for Selected Article
Bear Bryant
Do I need to give a reason? ;) Bear Bryant is the most famous coach in college football history and his influence has been tremendous. --BigDT 05:48, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
- Weak support - the only reason my support is weak is that the article does not have any in-line references. Johntex\talk 09:17, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
- Weak oppose - I oppose for the same reason as Johntex, no inline citations. And I don't think the references cited can account for all the content. One is a timeline with a few sentences around certain dates; one is a one paragraph bio on the College Football HoF website; one is a summary of his win/loss record; and the last is a link to WikiQuote which, I don't believe, can be used.↔NMajdan•talk 16:50, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- Support it has references, and a few in-line. I don't see a problem with its use, as it's fairly good and could get to GA quickly if someone jumped on it, which it would auto-pass then. MECU≈talk 17:26, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Another great shot by B. Good action. Johntex\talk 06:26, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
- Support. Good, high resolution image. A little blurry, but unless you're shooting with a DSLR, this is about as good as you're gonna get.↔NMajdan•talk 16:16, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
- Support doesn't anyone tackle with their head up anymore? MECU≈talk 02:37, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
- I don't know ... it's awful blurry. As I said above, I think we can afford to be more picky now. --B 20:07, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Another good find from Flickr. Extremely high res. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 03:55, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
- Support.↔NMajdan•talk 15:35, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
- Support doesn't anyone tuck in their jersey anymore? MECU≈talk 19:08, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Sean Glennon handing the football off to Brandon Ore. Note Sergio Render in the background getting manhandled. --B 20:49, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
- Weak support. Good resolution, slightly blurry, too zoomed in. Heisman pose?↔NMajdan•talk 21:14, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
- Weak Oppose It seems like the moment after the climax of action -- the letdown. It just doesn't do it for me. MECU≈talk 12:41, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
Image:Fixed Ramblin' Wreck.jpg
This might go well in March when Ramblin' Wreck is the Selected Article. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 19:51, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
- Why not just use it as the lead image on the selected article page? --B 01:23, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
- That would work as well. I suppose it could also work well at Portal:Sports and games. I'm just throwing it over here, since I have it. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 01:26, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

White background
The Heisman Trophy of Rashaan Salaam. Ideally this should be the image the week they give the trophy out. It's hard to get a good image of this because the flash bounces off the plaque so much. I took like 5 images and this one turned out great I think. The security guard was pretty nice. I shoulda asked to touch it. MECU≈talk 01:47, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
- Cautious support - I can imagine how hard it must have been to get keep the flash reflection down. The background throws me off though. I know that is not your fault at all; they probably weren't going to let you take it home to photograph it against a plain background! Any chance of applying a filter to make the background less noticeable? Johntex\talk 01:50, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not a photo editing dude, so if anyone can modify this to reduce the background, I'm all for it. I this the most distracting part is the left side with the guy wearing a jersey... but the right isn't that great either. MECU≈talk 02:10, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
- Comment. I removed the background and replaced with a simple white background and gave it a tighter crop.↔NMajdan•talk 20:52, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- Do you have the ability to save it as a PNG with a transparent background? That makes it much more usable. --B 21:26, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Cropped version
Panorama of Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium during pre-game of Rice at Texas. Johntex\talk 18:15, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose because of the big head on the left ... the one in the middle isn't great, but it's not that bad of an obstruction. The one on the left is a real problem, though. --B 19:27, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose I'm going to agree with B; the panorama is good, except for that head. *pokes it* —Disavian (talk/contribs) 20:23, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- (Insert obligatory Fathead (brand) joke) --B 20:27, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I'm not wild about the heads myself. If I had been the photographer I think I would have asked them to hunch-down, but I found this on flickr and just got the photographer to change the license so we can use it. I think it is just good enough, but maybe not. Johntex\talk 20:39, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- I have added a cropped version. I don't know if this is at all useful ... but I think the heads are bad. --B 11:43, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
