Sorry about removing "Danjia dialect" from "List of Chinese dialects"

Hi, sorry about that. I wasn't vandalising, I was trying to clean up the Yue table. It was very messy, dialect families were misplaced, names were wrong, transliterations were wrong. I have now made them all standard pinyin transliterations. I did my research from the "Yue Language Dialects" page in the Chinese Wikipedia (here, http://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/粵語方#.E7.96.8D.E5.AE.B6.E8.A9.B1). If you feel I have done any mistakes on the English page please let me know. Contributor168 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Contributor168 (talkcontribs) 08:05, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok thanks. That was the dialect most obvious to me. And stood out when I saw it deleted. Benjwong (talk) 08:09, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not remove references to Hou DeJian's eye witness testimony on Tiananmen 89 protest. He was a student leader, was on the square until 6:30am in the morning and played a very important role during the protest. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.33.15.87 (talk) 21:55, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How about not using Youtube as the only reference. Benjwong (talk) 22:01, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm am using HouDeJian's testimony on the documentary "Gates of Heavenly Peace" which is also available on Youtube. What is the problem? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.33.15.87 (talk) 15:40, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The wording is a bit too much. Don't you think to say "The most reliable account" raises some questions when it is the same example used again and again by pro-Beijing political groups? Since you are not looking for 3rd party sources to support this as "most reliable", can you at least reword it please. There are at least a million youtube videos all saying they are the most reliable. Benjwong (talk) 21:49, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Raymond-Chow.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use media which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 20:39, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Free to delete. That page did not have copyright limitation before. Benjwong (talk) 18:54, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from pages that you have created yourself. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, then please place {{hangon}} on the page (please do not remove any existing speedy deletion tag) and make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. Dipics (talk) 20:54, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Translation help?

Hi Benjwong - I noticed you're fairly active in Chinese topic areas, and was wondering if you could take a look at the characters seen on the side of the plane in this photo, and

  1. reproduce them
  2. transliterate them (Chiang Hung?)
  3. translate them if possible

Thanks in advance for any help! --Rlandmann (talk) 10:24, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is 江鴻. The translation is possibly "river swan" or somebody's name. But I really don't know if people put their names on planes. Benjwong (talk) 16:02, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much for your help! "River Swan" is a more likely meaning than a personal name; there was a related design from around the same time named "River Crane" (Chiang Hae). --Rlandmann (talk) 19:32, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to put a photo of douhua at Tong sui, there's a better/close-up photo at Douhua. Badagnani (talk) 18:46, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please help yourself with whatever pic you like. I just didn't want to deal with the code error showing. I have no preference at all. Benjwong (talk) 18:48, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't personally select douhua as the main depiction of tong sui. I'd probably show something with longans and snow fungus. Is that luk mei? For some reason, we don't have an article for that, and it's not explained at Tong sui. Badagnani (talk) 19:19, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am definitely taking it easy on tong sui topics for the time being. Benjwong (talk) 19:32, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:BaiGuang1970album.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:BaiGuang1970album.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 20:11, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Golden Shield Project source

Hey. You recently added a reference to the Golden Shield Project article. Do you also know the pages where the book states that fact? Checking a fact in a book without a page reference is almost impossible, unless you read the whole thing... Key to the city (talk) 22:47, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes page 91 of that book. Just look for the date June 29. Is actually available on books.google if you want it fast. Feel free to add the page number into the reference if you feel it is helpful. Benjwong (talk) 23:09, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey

I feel we may have got off to a bad start on the Chinese orthography pages. I apologise. You are obviously passionate about the subject and put a great deal of effort into these pages. It's an interesting topic for me as well, and I hope we can work together to improve these articles going forward. I assure you that I am quite non-partisan on the topic, and have no interest in promoting either one of the orthographies. I am more interested in how their usages differ and the interaction of the different orthographies with the cultures of different regions such as mainland China, Hong Kong or Taiwan. --PalaceGuard008 (Talk) 04:41, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

O don't worry, you can complain about my edits all you like. If I wasn't ready for the challenge I wouldn't be here. Is unfortunate that so much of the history is "unpopular" and "negative". People want to see a neutral view, when in fact everything in the PRC is controversial. Benjwong (talk) 06:27, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Sweet potato soup

A tag has been placed on Sweet potato soup requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Sweet potato soup

It's nothing personal, I just caught it while perusing around through "Recent Changes". It didn't appear notable enough to warrant its own entry so I tagged it. I noticed that you already got a {{hangon}} up, so if you can provide the appropriate info that's fine. Gromlakh (talk) 03:44, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks how do I get rid of the speedy delete tag? You guys are really quick on these deletions nowadays. Benjwong (talk) 03:46, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:AshitaNoJoePS2.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:AshitaNoJoePS2.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Speedy deletion of HotCha

A tag has been placed on HotCha requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics.

Flickr

Hi! Errrm...can you teach me how to use Flickr to upload pictures and things? I found quite a few useful pictures, but I have no idea how to process and apply it to the article ^^". Thanks a lot in advance! Dengero (talk) 05:15, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

1.) Yeah first you need to find a picture that is "self-taken". For example this image is taken with a Canon branded camera. Without the camera data, the image may be scanned from a magazine etc and violate licenses. So please find one with a camera data. So it won't be good.
2.) Afterwards the picture must use a specific license. These are good. Everything else is not good for wikipedia.

English: Attribution Creative Commons (BY)
中文: 姓名標示 Creative Commons (BY)
or
English: Attribution-ShareAlike (BY-SA)
中文: 姓名標示-授權分享 Creative Commons (BY-SA)

3.) If all the license requirements are good, login to Commons. Then use this web script.

Does this make sense? If you have a picture in mind, I'll be happy to walk you through. Benjwong (talk) 03:00, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I got my eyes on this one[1]. Is it compliable? Dengero (talk) 03:44, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It saids "All rights reserved", no good. Actually I already talked to that flickr user a long time ago. He has plans on uploading Natalie's pic by himself. He is a Natalie fan. Benjwong (talk) 03:57, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yikes. Can't believe a faded out subscript on a corner can do so much ^^". hmmmmm, I better do more searching first. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dengero (talkcontribs)
-what about this one? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dengero (talkcontribs)
Nope. If you look on this page for example, you can filter it by licenses. The first one and last one is acceptable for wikipedia. Very few pictures use the right license. I usually send a flickmail to people, asking them to change licenses. Benjwong (talk) 04:33, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

But I thought wikipedia was non-commercial? Or maybe it is =/ Its very abusable for promos afterall.... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dengero (talkcontribs) 04:46, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is non-commercial today. But if they sold wikipedia DVD in the future then the picture will not be allowed. Believe me, I had to learn the hard way. If you use this web script, it won't even let you upload with that license. Alot of people on flickr assume that license is ok. But it is not, to my understanding. Benjwong (talk) 04:51, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
hmmm....in that case.....I'll consult you again when I find a properly licensed picture :P. Thanks though. Dengero (talk) 06:23, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
sure. Benjwong (talk) 06:36, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nope that license does not work for Joe. Please see #2 above. It has to be BY or BY-SA. The "public" only means you can see it in public. Also there are alot of websites that can generate pinyin and jyutping. I can do this one, it would be helpful if we can find people to put it in templates. I use "雕" (as in hawk/carve, yeah?) when writing simplified. I'm not aware of 彫 being used in modern Chinese... Is it not a Shinjitai? --PalaceGuard008 (Talk) 00:11, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

All the computer programs and translation sites say 彫 is the traditional. But shouldn't that be "Ancient traditional"? I see random people use it over the web, so I can't tell if it is entirely phased out. At least we both agree it is part japanese. What I am trying to see is whether all software programs are making a mistake. That there is no simplification. And 雕 is the same everywhere for traditional and simplified. Benjwong (talk) 00:24, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
btw, sry to butt into this convo, "雕" is eagle, not hawk. Hawk is "鷹". Just thought I say ^^" Dengero (talk) 00:34, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Now it's my turn to say sorry to butt in! True, 雕 is eagle in standard simplified characters. Ornithologists in China don't like this usage, however, and prefer a (non-standard) simplified version of this character: 鵰.

scandal

Hmmmm, the recent scandal about Gillian Chung, Bobo Chan, Cecilia Cheung and Edison Chen has hit hard in Hong Kong and people are pouring in to edit thier pages. I know its real and stuff and after seeing those photos personally, even I could dismiss the artists claims of photoshopping and doctoring. After that, a news report said the police have CAUGHT a person who stole "an artist's" (edison) personal computer, and charge him for stealing and defamation etc etc. Which made me believe it more so. Anyway, how can we put all this into appropiate words and how on earth are we supposed to find references? I didn't revert a link on Bobo Chan's page, but I don't really think its appropiate to put a semi-porn page on wikipedia >.> Dengero (talk) 00:26, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I changed the references, but nothing as descriptive as the previous wiki editor's image references. Probably we will never find any reliable sources as descriptive as those pictures. But they look like someone's random upload, which doesn't make it any more real or fake. I think overtime more info will come in. Benjwong (talk) 03:42, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:ShanghaiFilmGroup.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:ShanghaiFilmGroup.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Unspecified source for Image:ShanghaiFilmGroup.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:ShanghaiFilmGroup.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 03:49, 1 February 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 03:49, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you take it yourself (with your camera) you can upload it to Wikimedia commons. I am hoping the pictures don't have frames etc. Benjwong (talk) 16:03, 9 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I uploaded like you mentioned and pasted the picture on Fala Chen. If everything is alright, I can upload the rest. Thx again! Dengero (talk) 05:29, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And while you're on that, your fantastic pinyin skills are needed in Kate Tsui and Mandy Cho =D You are so great lol. Dengero (talk) 05:36, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I am doing the pinyin by the computer. Is repetitive task. Anyway Fala already has a picture with good license. So she is ok without. If you took those pictures yourself, it should have camera data. Without camera data on the pictures, people will think you got it off the web somewhere and probably delete. Benjwong (talk) 05:40, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Also if you are taking the picture. Try to cut off at the head and arm pit area (without the TVB logos). Benjwong (talk) 05:42, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How to add the camera data? Dengero (talk) 05:43, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

All digital cameras do it automatically. Take a picture, then upload it to computer. If you don't touchup with photoshop or other graphic software, it will keep the camera data. Because this is a celebrity picture, it probably matters. See how this image has camera data at the bottom. Sorry for being picky, but you are very close. Benjwong (talk) 05:47, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's ok, I don't mind being picky/picky-ed on. But if I have to modify her by cutting her off on the shoulders, the camerca data will be lost. Is there a way to enter manually? Or should I take the chance and defend my picture when the licence police comes in. Dengero (talk) 05:51, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. I was thinking you just take the picture from head to arm area.... adjust it by holding it. Don't bother with Fala pics though. That will save you time for 1. Benjwong (talk) 05:54, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll take a shot, at Roger Kwok this time. About time he needed an image anyway. Dengero (talk) 05:58, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I did it, and didn't modify a single bit.....no metadata was recorded ><" Oh well, I suppose I'll leave it there and wait for the fair use bots to catch me......or hope they wont catch me =D Dengero (talk) 06:08, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well we'll see what happens. I changed the picture description slightly. Hope you have more pictures coming. I am done for the day. Benjwong (talk) 06:11, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

English external Link

hmmmm hey lol. I want to ask, about external links on chinese artists, which rule do they exactly break according to here? Cause....I've actually been on this website for many years....and everything inside is good content, no advertising, no promotion, all purely informational and discussion about an artist. So..perhaps an exception can be made to the traditional guard on the external links section? I also must note, this site actually started in 2001...which is actually earlier than the offical site itself lol. Just like to ask your opinion ^^" thx! Edison photo scandal

"An u(n)named female staff member at Baidu posted the images"

Maybe I'm missing something: I don't see this in the sources. All that is said is that Baidu has not been sufficiently proactive in removing the "romantic pictures". Could you please point out where the above statement is said or implied? Ohconfucius (talk) 02:16, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok I see why you can't find it.  ;) You need to go back to the edit I made before you rearranged it here Look for the sentence: "A staff member, who refused to reveal her name,". Is definitely at the website. Benjwong (talk) 05:32, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The source says "A staff member, who refused to reveal her name, at Baidu's public affairs department said the company was asked to make an apology yesterday, however, the authorities haven't made decision yet." Nowhere does it say that the female staff member was responsible for posting the pictures on the site, like you wrote. If indeed that's the part of the source you are referring to, I think the line "An u(n)named female staff member at Baidu posted the images" would be incorrect. The whole criticism of Baidu is that they did not do enough to stop the spread of the images (ie did not take them down as soon as they were posted), which is quite different from saying an employee put them up on the site. What you wrote may be potentially defamatory of Baidu, and should be removed. Ohconfucius (talk) 06:49, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You are absolutely right. I am going to change it. Benjwong (talk) 07:07, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Tianya citation from SCMP:
Could you copy out the article for me, please? I just want to check that the assertion about Tianya ("On February 22 the photos were also posted on the popular chat room, Tianya.com, and have been viewed nearly 20 million times a day by mainland Internet users.") is correct. I have a small doubt because the WSJ said "Yet the incident has been widely discussed on mainstream Chinese Web sites. On bulletin board Tianya, a discussion thread called "Edison Chen and Gillian Chung's Bedroom Photos! Is it true or not?" has been viewed nearly 28 million times, and features nearly 155,000 posts. Following the crackdown by Hong Kong police, some people in the territory have even turned to mainland Web sites to share the photos." It does not say how long the thread has been around, but the thread's "being viewed 28 million times (in total)" is not the same as the photos appeared on 22 February and have been viewed 20 million times a day. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ohconfucius (talkcontribs) 08:53, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The WSJ article one was from many days ago. To my knowledge this one is right on. It is here. Benjwong (talk) 14:52, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The scandal surrounding the celebrity sex photos has captivated the Chinese-speaking world and many other nations.

Newspapers, internet sites and television stations have provided extensive coverage of the scandal, and Edison Chen Koon-hei's apology yesterday was run on most of the world's top news sites.

Expatriates in Hong Kong have reported repeated requests from friends back home for links to sites showing the pictures and information about the stars.

Many popular celebrity gossip internet sites have published the nude pictures and run daily commentaries on the saga.

Tens of thousands in Taiwan forgot work to watch yesterday's press conference. All Taiwanese stations broadcast it live.

Interpreters were on hand to give simultaneous Chinese translations of Canadian-born Chen's English confession. Cable stations reran segments hourly.

The steamy photos have become the talk of Taiwan, especially as they coincided with the Lunar New Year holiday.

Mainlanders were also fascinated. Popular websites such as Sina.com, Sohu.com and 163.com carried Chen's press conference live and offered a word-by-word translation.

Meanwhile, the photos posted on the popular chat room Tianya.com have been viewed nearly 20 million times a day by mainland internet users.

Mainland police have warned internet users they will be breaking the law if they access the pictures or pass them on. Police have arrested 10 people for producing, selling or buying some of the photos.

  • There is no mention of the photos having been posted 22 Feb, but the implication is that they have been there for a while, so I have taken out the date from the statement. Ohconfucius (talk) 13:22, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok I see your very different interpretation. The original said: Meanwhile, the photos posted on the popular chat room Tianya.com have been viewed nearly 20 million times a day by mainland internet users.
  1. The appeared on 22 February statement I put in, does not mean the photo appeared "for the first time" on 22 February. It just means on that particular date 22 February. That is how I interpreted it. May be I should have said "on that particular date".
  2. The viewed 20 million times a day statement should be right. To me this still sounds logical. If WSG was at 28 million days ago, it would not surprise me if it is being viewed that 20 million times daily since. Most likely they were referring to different pictures on that site. But if it is the same picture, the count shouldn't be going backwards. I am too lazy to get an account on tianya. So I'll let this one go. Benjwong (talk) 03:00, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Weird Small text

For Cathy Leung, her birth name seems to be in smaller text than everything else. Have I done something wrong? Dengero (talk) 01:18, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is because the Infobox actor template has auto <font> tag enlargement for the traditional and simplified names. Because birth name column may have English, you have to do it manually, I just fixed her name. Benjwong (talk) 03:33, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:ChangchunEntrance.png

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:ChangchunEntrance.png. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rossrs (talk) 14:12, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

additional content on Cantonese Cuisine page

The following additional content on Cantonese Cuisine page and an external link look like appropriate. I was wondering why you did not like it.

Cantonese cuisine (粤菜) is known for its sometime use of ‘exotic’ ingredients. A famous proverb illustrates the variety of Cantonese food: "anything that walks, swims, crawls, or flies with its back to Heaven is edible." However, these exotic foods are not eaten that often.

Cantonese cuisine (粤菜) stresses freshness of ingredients and correct cooking method. Ingredients are usually prepared with a light touch, just enough cooking and seasoning to keep the original color of the material and the natural flavors of the foods. 208.109.109.173 (talk) 03:54, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok yes. The famous proverb "anything that walks" phrase is possibly a stereotype phrase. See the stereotype section please. Unless you have the very original Chinese phrase with an exact origin, it won't go back in the article. We talked about this in the talk page before too. We maybe wrong... if you know more than us. Other mainland cuisines have equally as many exotic ingredients. Those pages just hasn't been put to proper editing. It felt it was kind of biased. Benjwong (talk) 04:04, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thx for the clarification. I can certainly understand although I myself who's a big Cantonese food fan don't feel offended. Anyway, I've made some modification, if you could review and correct it if necessary, that will be great. Reincarnation userbox

You have an userbox on reincarnation. I will propose to remove this userbox because this userbox is controversial and promoting superstition. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 16:54, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Are you standardizing wikipedia by deleting userboxes that also promote christianity, catholism? Because if you let other userbox stay for believing in Jesus of Nazareth and the Roman Catholic Church, and you can't let this one stay, it is quite biased. Benjwong (talk) 17:07, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Reincarnation is a concept that is present in many religions - Hinduism, Jainism, Sikhism, Buddhism, Taoism etc. My objection is because this userbox is promoting a concept that is superstition. Anyone can tell their religious stance, but to mention a particular view...no. For example one can say through userbox "This user opposes Iraq war", but it will not be appropriate to say "This user opposes killing of US forces in Iraq". One can say "This user support the independence of Tibet". But it will not be appropriate to say "This user support the killing of Chinese troops deployed in Tibet". These comparison are not same in this case. I am just trying to simplify the logic. You have particularly chosen a view, a concept of some religions which is directly promoting superstition. I will just propose to erase the userbox promoting this particular view. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 17:19, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh no, you have another userbox saying "This user is interested in human soul or spirit". Oh no. Buch of userboxes to promote superstition. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 17:22, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok I had to ask if you were standardizing wikipedia all the way across. Because your proposal unfortunately does not apply to me at all. I have not said anything military related on my page. In fact you appear to be the one with the alternate username Intercontinental ballistic missile, which is 10x more controversial than the userboxes I used. I suggest you not promote weaponary in that manner. My reincarnation userbox was a copy of the original reincarnation box. That one has even more users than mine. If you can get that user to delete his, let me know. Benjwong (talk) 17:31, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tangyuan as Hangzhou cuisine

Are you sure? My impression was that its most famous places of origin are around Ningbo. --PalaceGuard008 (Talk) 05:11, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I really thought it was Hangzhou. If not... Taiwanese or Fujian. You are welcome to change it. I am just trying to fit everything in the Category:Chinese cuisine into individual cuisine categories. Benjwong (talk) 05:14, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Appreciate your campaign -- but I have a feeling Tangyuan might be one of those things which really defy classification into one category or another (like steamed rice or soup noodle). It has been widespread in both northern and southern china for the last few centuries, and I don't know if it is possible today to reliably trace it to one province. Each region has its variation, but the general idea seems to be fairly uniform. --PalaceGuard008 (Talk) 05:27, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
