Jinggangshan University (井冈山大学) is located in very peace and calm city the Ji'an city in China. The Jian city is in Jiangxi province in China. Ji'an is located in the foot of Jinggangshan Mountains. This university is a fairly new university.Jinggangshan University this area is known as the cradle of Chinese revolution. It has long history with Mao Zedong. This university has very scenic area. Jinggangshan Airport is 38km away from this university. After many obstacles it gets the name of university in 2007.Though this university's rank is 105 but now this university is progressing with a very good educational environment.[1]

Introduction

With a building area of 510,000 sq. m., Jinggangshan University covers an area of 2556 mu, possessing about 90 million yuan worth of equipments and apparatus for teaching and scientific research. With a total storage of 1,030,000 volumes of books, the library provides readers with electronic periodicals in Chinese or foreign languages and other net services such as foreign language database, diskette database, on-line database and so on. The university publishes its own academic monthly journal, The Journal of Jinggangshan University, including philosophy & social science, and nature science editions. The university also has modern language labs and computer centers. The campus network has been established, and the multi-media equipments have been widely used in teaching and scientific researches. There are altogether 194 practice bases including humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, modern engineering, technological sciences, education and medicine sciences. There is an affiliated hospital with 522 sick beds and 35 medical departments and sections. At present, the university has over 15,000 full-time students from 30 provinces, districts, and municipalities of China, of whom over 8800 are undergraduates. Besides, there are over 10,000 adult students at all levels.

History

Jinggangshan University was founded in 1958, closed in 1963 because of the poor national economy at that time. In the August of 1978, Jinggangshan Branch of Jiangxi Normal University and Jinggangshan Branch of Jiangxi Medical University were set up on the basis of initiate Jinggangshan University. In the April of 1982, and the March of 1993, they were renamed respectively 'Jinggangshan Teacher College' and 'Jinggangshan Medicine College". In the March of 2000, approved by the Education Ministry of China, Jinggangshan Teacher College was renamed as Jinggangshan University after merging with Ji'an Educational Institute. In the July of 2003, approved by the Education Ministry of China, Jinggangshan Normal University was renamed as Jinggangshan University by combining with Jinggangshan Medicine College and Jinggangshan Vocational Technical College.

Teachers & Staff

The staff of current professional teachers in our college numbers 922, of whom 52 are professors, 257 are associate-professors, and over 60 are PHDs, over 310 are masters. 33 provincial pacesetters or backbone teachers of disciplines, 40 are school-level pacesetters of disciplines and academic subjects. Academicians such as Wang Zhikun, Yu Xiao, Qie Zhengwu and a host of well-known scholars both at home and abroad are engaged as part-time professors of the university. Meanwhile over 50 teachers and researchers of the university are engaged as honor tutors of master degree in Tongji University, Qinghua University, Nanchang University, Jiangxi Normal University, Jiangxi University of Finance & Economics, Jiangxi Agricultural University, East China Jiaotong University, Jiangxi University of Science &Technology, Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Southwest Normal University, etc. They have guided more than 60 masters.

Courses and Labs

At present, the university has 15 schools and 44 undergraduate majors. The 14 schools are Politics and Law School, Liberal Arts School, Foreign Study School, Business School, Maths & Physics School, Engineering School, Chemistry School, Fine Arts School, Physical Education School, Medicine School, Nursing School, Information and Media Technology School, Biology School, Pedagogy School. And Adult Education School. Covering 9 fields----arts, science, pedagogy, administration, economics, history, engineering, medicine, and law, the 44 undergraduate majors includes English, Business English, Japanese, International Economy and Trade, Law, Chinese Literature, International Chinese Teaching, Broadcasting and Journalism, Music, Fine Arts, Artistic Designing, History, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Applying Chemistry, Biology, Ecology, Applying Psychology, Mechanics and Automatization, Computer Science and Technology, Biomedicine, Nursing, Information Management and System, Marketing, Financial Administration, Tourism, etc.

Disciplinary construction being under way, the university hence enforces the courses construction. There are two key provincial disciplines(ancient Chinese literature, physicochemistry), two provincial brand courses(Chinese Teaching Methodology for Middle School Students, History of Ancient Chinese Literature ), one provincial key lab(Coordination Chemistry Lab), one provincial education committee¡¯s key lab (Ecological Environment and Resources Lab), 4 city level key labs(Analytical Structure Chemistry Lab, Medicinal Biotechnology Lab, Singlechip and Embed System Lab, Ecological Environment and Resources Lab) ,one city-level engineering research center(Numerical Control Machine Engineering Technology Center).

In the December of 2004, the university passed the assessment of teaching level of undergraduates organized by the Ministry of Education of China. In the same year it was entitled by the Ministry of Education of China to enroll foreign students.

To promote scientific research greatly, the university keeps on making the encouragement policies. According to statistics, in recent years the number of academic research papers by Jingangshan University is over 3100, among which 75 are on the Science Citation Index (SCI) and on EI,together with 251 compiled monographs and textbooks. Jingangshan University has won over 25 ministerial and provincial awards of scientific research and teaching research achievements. There are 138 academic research projects and 67 teaching reforming researches are being undertaking, 2 out of which are National Natural Science Fund programs in 2005.

To meet the students¡¯demands of choosing specialty freely, the university enroll the freshmen into a general disciplines containing a group of related majors. The university carries out credit system and emphasizes on the training of students¡¯ abilities in practice and innovation. Because of the students¡¯high qualities, the employment rate of the graduates from the university has been higher than the average employment rate of Chinese universities.

In recent years, the university has gained more than 250 laurels at all levels(state-level, provincial-level , prefecture-level)and won a title of ¡°national forerunner unit for social practice of college students¡± on consecutive 8 years. The academic administration gains the title of ¡°national advanced academic administration¡±, Aixing Agency is honored with the title of ¡°national advanced unit of Million Volunteers of Helping the Disability¡±. It also obtained such honors as ¡°provincial- level civilized campus¡±, ¡°civilized unit of culture construction of campus¡± and so on. In the national embarking competitions of maths modeling, in the First National and Provincial Pingpang games, and in the First National advertisement art competition, our students won gold medals.

Through explorations and renovations, Jingangshan University will carry forward its tradition and the Jinggangshan Spirit and further its reforms to forge ahead toward the great goal of constructing a high level, famous teaching & research-oriented comprehensive university with unique characteristics and highly qualified faculty.

In 2007

China's education authorities have re-established Jinggangshan University in the area known as the cradle of Chinese revolution[2] 44 years after it was closed.The university of 27,000 students and 974 teaching staff was upgraded from the former Jinggangshan College and the campus covers 170 hectares.The Ministry of Education and the provincial government of Jiangxi have signed an agreement to provide more support for Jinggangshan University.Jinggangshan University was first built in the Jinggangshan Mountains in 1958, but was closed five years later when China faced economic difficulties.Chinese Communist Party Chairman Mao Zedong and his colleagues established the first rural base of the revolution in the Jinggangshan Mountains in 1927.The Communist Party of China (CPC) on Saturday marked the 80th anniversary of the founding of Jinggangshan revolutionary base in east China's Jiangxi Province.The re-opening of Jinggangshan University is seen as another move in the development of the cradle of Chinese revolution.Jinggangshan Airport opened in May 2004 and an expressway to Jinggangshan opened to traffic in March this year. In June, Jinggangshan saw the launch of its first railway. The former revolutionary base has also become a tourist destination with the number of visitors increasing by 20 percent annually. It received more than 850,000 tourists from home and abroad in the first four months of the year.
