The lenoks or Asiatic trouts are a genus, Brachymystax, of salmonid fishes. It contains three species living in Mongolia, Siberia, the far East of Russia, and Northern Korea.[2][3]
Appearance
Lenoks can be sharp-nosed or blunt-nosed. Populations of blunt-nosed Lenoks are generally found in different areas than populations of sharp-nosed Lenoks.[4] They typically grow to about 20 inches.[5] They are relatively round in shape, and speckled with dark brown spots.[6] They usually weigh up to 15 kilos.[7] Their ventraks are usually colored a reddish hue, and their pectoral fins yellowish. [8]
Lenoks in Korea are now on the verge of extinction due to deforestation.[9]
Habitat
Lenoks tend to live in rivers of any sort,[10] but usually upstream, where the water is colder.[11]
History
During the glacial epoch, Lenoks were landlocked inland of the Korean peninsula.[12]
