The lenok ( Brachymystax lenok ) is a freshwater fish of the family Salmonidae (Salmonidae), which occurs in Siberia, Northern China and Korea. The subspecies Brachymystax lenok tsinlingensis is endemic to parts of the Qin Ling Mountains.

The Lenok usually reaches a length of 55 cm and a weight of 8 kg, males can be up to 70 cm long, with females the maximum length is 60 cm. It has a typical trout shape, but has noticeably small scales and a short anal fin. Its upper jaw is short and wide, its teeth are small. During the breeding season the fish turn dark red, the dorsal and pectoral fins show the colors of the rainbow.
Way of life
The Lenok lives in cool to cold rivers and streams and grows slowly. In the summer months he seeks out deeper layers of water. It feeds on insects and their larvae, flea crabs , small fish, frogs and the eggs and fry of salmon fish. The Lenok is a pure freshwater inhabitant and never visits the sea in its life cycle. He is considered endangered.
