Introduction

Pune Institute of Computer Technology, (PICT) was established in 1983 and is one of India's leading institutions of education and research in the latest in the current technology. PICT is focused on creating versatile Computer,IT and Electonics and Telecommunication professionals who can apply their knowledge & skills anywhere in the world. There are also post-graduation programs for professionals who want to specialize in a particular field of their interest. And also management programs for the graduates who want to become leaders in today's fast paced corporate world.

Admissions

Admissions to PICT are highly competitive and only a select few students from the state of Maharashtra get an opportunity to study here. The cut-off percentages are within the top percentile of high-school graduates. Affirmative action programs exist, including programs for students from north-eastern India and migrants from Kashmir. Recently, the process of centralized admissions in the State of Maharashtra has seen a lot of confusion prevail over the multitude of entrance examinations that exist and the admission policies are always in flux.

Location

PICT campus is located in downtown Pune. Pune is among the 10 largest cities in the country and has a population of over 3.5 million. It is a city where modern facilities mingle with traditional, cultural heritage. Pune lies about 150 kilometers south of Mumbai - the commercial center of India. The Mumbai-Pune corridor hosts India's major cluster of industries and centers of advanced education, research, healthcare, finance, banking, insurance and business services.Pune is linked by rail and air to almost all the major parts of the country. A recently constructed 6-lane highway connects Pune to Mumbai - a comfortable drive of less than 3 hours.

University Affiliation

PICT is affiliated to the University of Pune and offers Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Engineering degrees of the University of Pune. With over 300,000 students enrolled in 320 affiliated colleges and 180 recognized institutes spread over 3 districts [counties] in the state, the University of Pune is one of the largest and most renowned university in the country.

This is a National level presentation of final year projects done in Computers, IT, electronics and telecommunications.

PICT Topography

Pict is basically made up of the following structures :

  • Boys Hostel
  • Girls Hostel
  • Canteen
  • College Building
  • SITM Building
  • Guest House
  • Multipurpose Basket ball court where all games other than basket ball are played
  • Step In Net Cafe(The most successful alumni have spent more time here than in college)

All of these structures are enclosed in a squarish complex of about 3 acres. Besides the above mentioned structures PICT also has THE BBC Grounds Sports Facillity (some members of the student body are pushing to rename it as The Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Complex). The BBC Grounds is a multipurpose sports and recreation centre which provides the following facilities :

Around PICT

A recently opened Cafe Coffee Day is located directly in front of the PICT main gates. Not only it serves beverages to suit to the taste buds of students, but also provides a relaxed atmosphere to hang out and catch up with the latest on and off the campus.

Being located in the heart of the 'Backmarket area' PICT students enjoy a multitude of choice when it comes to choosing a place to dine. There are also lots of other shops located in the relatively compact area so there is never a need to go someplace else for something. Backmarket area, being a student majority area also serves as a host to various promotions or competitions various companies organize especially for students. And its a relatively safe place, with people on the streets late at night and a constant police vigilance.
