Teeaya Shanice Mitchell (born 26 August 1994, in the London Borough of Camden, North London) is a fictional character in BBC Soap Opera, EastEnders, she is played by Katie Griffiths.
Character Development
Teeaya was in EastEnders for 17-days in 1994, making her last appearance on 12 September when she was taken to live with her Aunt, Suzy. At this time, Teeaya was 17-days old. In 2000, Teeaya's older half sister, Roxy, 23, said that Teeaya was now staying with cousin, Bianca. On 21 July 2007 it was announced that Waterloo Road actress, Katie Griffiths was to play the long-term role of Teeaya Mitchell, for one episode in August 2007, and then regularly from April 2008. In 2007, two teenage girls appeared on the Square on evening, and the younger one, who was 13, went off with Sean Slater. In November 2007, Patsy Palmer announced her return to Walford as Bianca, and producers decided to bring back Bianca's kids and Teeaya. Teeaya was cast as a "young, chavvy, pregnant teen, stunning Walford with her pregnancy. But what's more, is that Teeaya's the youngest Mitchell Sister, who hasn't been seen since 1994."
In April 2008, around 7 1/2 months after their appearance in August 2007, the girls were revealed to be Bianca's family. The older one was Bianca's step-daughter, 15-year old Whitney Dean. The younger one was heavily pregnant (from her one night stand with Sean Slater), and was revealed to be 13-year old Teeaya Mitchell. On 14 April, Bianca, Whitney, Teeaya and Bianca's younger kids (Liam, 9, Tiffany, 5, and Morgan, 3) arrived on the Square.
Personal Life
Teeaya was born on 26 August 1994 to Tanya Branning, now 33, and Archie Mitchell (d1994). It was a one night stand between the pair. Despite Teeaya's older, half sisters, Roxy Mitchell, now 30, and Ronnie Mitchell, now 34, living in the Square, as well as Tanya and her husband, Max, (both split, Christmas 2007), Teeaya remained in Camden, with Aunt, Suzy, until 1999. In 2000, 22-year old Roxy said that Teeaya, now 6, was now living with 23-year old cousin, Bianca Jackson, and Bianca's 2-year old son, Liam Butcher. On 1 April 2008, Bianca was in South London, with her, 9-year old son, Liam, 5-year old daughter, Tiffany, 3-year old son, Morgan, 15-year old step-daughter, Whitney, and 13-year old cousin, Teeaya. On 14 April 2008, the 6 arrived in the Square - Teeaya being heavily pregnant, swearing that she had no idea who the baby's father was, however, it was revealed on 1 May 2008 that she did - Sean Slater. Because of this, Roxy, 29, confiscated Teeaya's phone (and will not give it back until January 2009, this proved to have disastorous consequences when Teeaya gave birth to a baby all alone on a tube) and grounded her from May 2008 until late July 2008. She also took very nasty revenge on her 13-year old sister. On 28 May 2008, Teeaya had a daughter, who she named after cousin, Bianca Jackson. Teeaya is just like Darren's twin sister, Demi Miller, 17, who had baby Aleesha at the age of 13 in 2004. However, Teeaya and Demi hate each other.
1994-1997
Teeaya Shanice Mitchell was born on 26 August 1994 in Camden, to Tanya Branning, then 20, and the deceased Archie Mitchell. Since Teeaya wasn't her husband, Max's daughter, Tanya decided to put Teeaya up for adoption. Tanya already had a daughter before Teeaya, named Lauren Branning, who was Max's daughter, and hadn't been put up for adoption like her younger half sister, Teeaya. On 12 September 1994, Suzy Branning, Teeaya's Aunt, took full custody of her baby niece. On 1 January 2000, Teeaya moved to South London to live with 23-year old cousin, Bianca, and her 2-year old son, Liam. In 2003, Bianca's fiancee, Nathan died, leaving Bianca heavily pregnant with Tiffany (b2003), and to take full custody of Nathan's 10-year old daughter, Whitney, who had become best-friends with 9-year old Teeaya. In August 2007, Whitney and Teeaya went off on their own for one night, ending up in Walford. Whitney got Teeaya drunk, and 13-year old Teeaya slipped off with an unknown man, falling pregnant as a result - Teeaya later revealed the man as 23-year old, Sean Slater, the fiancee of her older sister, Roxy, 29. In 2006, Bianca and the kids were living in Essex. This is where Teeaya made friends with Ruby Allen, who had just left Walford.
2008–
Heavily pregnant Teeaya was in South London on 1 April 2008, when she and her family were being thrown out of the house they were staying in by their landlord. Despite Bianca's desperate attempts to persuade the landlord to reconsider, he did not, and the whole family were forced to sleep in a bus shelter after they couldn't find anywhere else. The next morning, Teeaya woke up to find two police officers wondering what they were doing. Bianca told the police that they had missed the bus, and wouldn't be able to make it home in time. She was backed up by Teeaya and Whitney.
However, later that day, the same police officers noticed Whitney in the park with Teeaya and the younger kids after Bianca had gone to try and find a place for them to stay. The police questioned Whitney and then Teeaya, but she told them to leave her and her family alone. Bianca returned to see the police interfering, and hit one of the officers. Her kids, including Teeaya were taken away, and Bianca was arrested, but was later released. Bianca then became distressed as she thought she had lost her kids. In a desperate bid to get her family back, she eventually gave an address to social services, that being Pat Evans's house. Bianca eventually got her kids back, including Teeaya, and they all went to stay with Pat. This was also the day that Teeaya became the 13-year old girlfriend of the much older, Darren Miller, 17.
On 15 April 2008, heavily pregnant Teeaya and new boyfriend, Darren, were in the Vic. Standing by the bar, they were having a laugh with Roxy Mitchell who asked Teeaya how many months pregnant she was, Teeaya told her she was 7 & 1/2 months pregnant. Roxy asked Teeaya her name, and Teeaya, who didn't know Roxy's full name, replied that she was Teeaya. Teeaya Shanice Mitchell and she'd just arrived with her cousin, Bianca Jackson. Roxy realized who Teeaya was, and explained to her who she was. The sisters became good friends, although on 1 May 2008, it was all ruined thanks to the 13-year old's big revealation of her unborn baby's paternity, leaving Roxy to to prove to Teeaya that she was not to be messed with.
On 1 May 2008, Roxy found out from Whitney that Teeaya did know the paternity of the unborn baby. That evening, she confronted Teeaya upstairs in the Vic, and physically forced the 13-year old to reveal who the father was. Teeaya eventually admitted it was Roxy's fiancee, Sean Slater, and they'd been seeing each-other since they'd met in August 2007. Roxy was shocked. Angrily, she grabbed her sister and began to beat her up. Despite Teeaya trying to fight back, Roxy proved to be the stronger one, and handcuffed Teeaya to a bed by her wrists and ankles.
On May 21 2008, nearly 3-weeks after the revealation, Teeaya, 13, was still handcuffed to a bed. Roxy let her go, saying that she wasn't angry now, and although the sisters had now made up, Teeaya still seemed scared of her older sister. On May 23 2008, at around 7:30pm, Lauren and Abi were both staying over at friends' houses, and although grounded, 8 month pregnant Teeaya sneaked out. She went to Number 5, and banged on the door, pushing past Tanya, who protested, and angrily asked the 13 year old why she was there. Teeaya begged Tanya to tell her where Sean was, but Tanya said she didn't know, and didn't care. She then asked her why. Teeaya told her that she couldn't find him anywhere, and he was dangerous, because if he was really wound up, he could kill anybody he hated, Tanya being a person he had hated in the past. She took Teeaya into the Sitting-Room, where a heated argument errupted between the mother and daughter. Tanya told Teeaya she didn't want anything to do with her, seeing as she was eight months pregnant, had a 17-year old boyfriend (Darren) who wasn't even the father of the unborn baby - the father being 23-year old Sean Slater. Teeaya begged Tanya not to dump her because she wasn't Max or Jack's daughter. Tanya slapped Teeaya, saying "How dare you! It's not because you're not Max or Jack's daughter! You're a two-faced slag, now get out!" Teeaya sat in the middle of the Square from around 8:00pm until 8:45pm. Roxy and Ronnie were working in the Pub downstairs, and hadn't noticed Teeaya had been gone for 1 hour and 15 minutes. At 8:45pm, Tanya came out on the Square, and sat with Teeaya, trying to explain she didn't hate her. She took Teeaya back to Number 5, where they made up, but when Tanya went to hug Teeaya, she spotted the big, bloody scars left by the handcuffs, prompting her to ask Teeaya how she'd got them. Teeaya ran out of the house and back to the Vic, stupidly going into the Pub instead of into the back. Roxy looked up, but instead of being angry, she smiled and told her sister to go upstairs, she'd talk to her in a bit. When she came upstairs, they talked, and hugged.Teeaya told Roxy that she wasn't sure if she'd be able to cope with being a Mum at 13. Roxy promised her younger sister she'd support her all the way. She then hugged Teeaya.
In the early hours of 28 May 2008, somebody walked through Bridge Street, some people were in their kitchens, unable to sleep. Each clock showing 4:30 in the morning, the person who walked through Bridge Street then bought a tube ticket for the Metropolitan Line. Later that day, still in Walford, Teeaya bumped into Tanya, who said she wanted to know about the scars. Teeaya ran, chased by Tanya. The 13-year old ran towards the Tube Station, revealing that it was Teeaya who had bought the ticket. Tanya could not get any further, as she did not have a ticket, but Teeaya did. Tanya rushed to the Vic and alerted Roxy, who was annoyed, as Teeaya was near her due date, and still grounded. She realized she also had Teeaya's phone, so if Teeaya was in danger, there would be no way she could contact anybody. Teeaya was going to the last stop on the Metropolitan Line, which was over 45 minutes away from where she currently was. 20-minutes into the journey, the tube broke down, and Teeaya went into labour, around people she did not know. Thankfully, they helped her, and when the tube started working again 25-minutes later, Teeaya was rushed to hospital, where she gave birth to a baby girl, Bianca Miller. Darren kissed Teeaya and promised her everything would be OK. The next day, Roxy bought Teeaya home, where the 13-year old made a truce with her mother, Tanya. Back at the Vic Roxy grounded Teeaya for another 26-days, because the 13-year old gone off by herself, while she was supposed to be grounded, and due to give birth in the next 9-days.
On 21 August, Teeaya nicked vodka from the Vic, and got drunk with Demi. Roxy caught them, dragged Teeaya home and grounded her for a month, meaning she would be grounded on her 14th birthday. The two sisters remain close, despite Teeaya's affair with Sean.
On 23 August 2008, Teeaya was up in her room with Whitney, 15. Neither of them knew that Roxy was listening at the door. Teeaya told her cousin that over the years, she's learnt to trust only certain people. Those people being: Bianca, Whitney, Tiffany, Liam, Morgan and Pat. She did not mention Roxy. Because of her baby daughter, Bianca, being the daughter of Sean Slater, she and Darren came up with the idea of Darren raising Bianca as his own daughter. However, Teeaya told Whitney that she was still in love with Sean, and because of everything that had happened, she was going to end it with Darren. Roxy was shocked, and went into the kitchen, thinking things over. She was shocked that her younger sister still loved Sean and didn't trust anybody apart from the Jackson family, Roxy decided, that once Whitney was gone, she would talk things over with her younger sister. However, 2 hours later, she discovered that both Teeaya and Whitney were gone, Teeaya having sneaked out, as she was supposed to be grounded. Roxy went outside, and saw Stacey, Whitney, Lauren, Abi, Lucy, Liam and Tiffany behind Teeaya, backing her up as the 13 year old and Darren argued. Stacey slapped Darren, telling him that Teeaya had told him it was over. Darren and Teeaya were soon yelling at each-other, prompting Teeaya's mates to yell at him to leave her alone. Tanya took Lauren and Abi home, saying she would punish Teeaya the next day, Bianca took Liam, Whitney and Tiffany home, leaving Stacey, Lucy and Teeaya still yelling at Darren. Jane got involved also, taking Lucy home. Roxy dragged a screaming Teeaya back to the Vic by her hair, and the two sisters had a huge fight. Roxy emerged victorious, and grounded Teeaya for 4-months and 26-days. She managed patched things up with Teeaya, who no longer trusts her older sister.
The next day on the 24 August 2008, Roxy allowed Teeaya to take baby Bianca for a walk in the buggy. While Roxy was talking to Stacey and Christian, two of her best-friends, they spotted Teeaya and Darren bump into each other, and have yet another yelling match. Darren asked Teeaya why she wasn't going out with Sean, and Teeaya replied that she still loved Darren. He then tried to apologise, but Teeaya ran off with Bianca and the buggy. Around 6-hours later, older sister, Lauren, 14, found her, and took her back to Number 5, where Tanya decided not to punish Teeaya for what had happened the other day. She comforted her 13-year old daughter instead, and then took her back to the Vic where Roxy comforted her and hugged her. However, Teeaya still doesn't trust Roxy and is still scared of her.
