Fockea is a genus of succulent scrubs native to southern Africa.[1] known collectively as water roots, a reference to their characteristic bulbous caudex, which is edible in at least some species.[2][3]
Taxonomy
Fockea multiflora is widely distributed but exclusively tropical species, sister to the other five species. Fockea angustifolia, also widely distributed, is mainly tropical, and sister to the remaining four species, which are endemic to southern Africa.[1]
