University of Ostrava

The University of Ostrava (Czech Ostravská univerzita), is a university in the city of Ostrava, Czech Republic, Moravian-Silesian region.

The University was founded in 1991, but the history of single pedagogical faculty dates back to 1964. Today, the University of Ostrava has four faculties: pedagogy, philosophy, science, and combined medicine and social sciences. Extra-departmental university bodies include the Institute of Artistic Studies, Institute for Research and Application of Fuzzy Modeling, Institute for Regional Studies, and the Centre for Information Technology.

As of 2006, the rector of the university is Vladimír Baar, who has been in this position since 2004.
