David Teague (basketball)

David Teague (born June 4, 1983 in Indianapolis, Indiana) is an American professional basketball player for AEL 1964 BC team in the Greek League. He played collegiately at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana in the NCAA.

Basketball career

David Teague attended Pike High School, located in Indianapolis, and played along with former Notre Dame basketball star player, Chris Thomas. David led his high school team averaging 15.3 ppg.

College Career

2002-2006

After graduating high scholl, he attended Bridgeton Academy Prep in Maine for a short time before transferring to Purdue University, although he was considering Southern Illinois (who at the time was head coached by his soon to be Purdue head coach, Matt Painter, before Gene Keady recruited him). During the 2002-'03 season, his freshmen season, the 6'5", 196 lb guard led the Boilermakers in 3 pt% and currently has the 2nd most 3 pt fg's made by a freshmen behind Etuwan Moore's 66.

Teague played his first 3 seasons under Gene Keady. After Keady decided to retire, he appointed a former player of his, Matt Painter, to step in his place. A torn ACL during a practice forced him to sit out, deciding the best thing to do was to return for a fifth season at full health. For the '05-'06 season, without Teague or teammate Carl Landry out with injuries, the Boilermakers struggled, finishing with a 9-19 season.

2006-2007

After Teague was back in complete health, he returned to the team as a redshirt senior. He averaged 14.1 ppg (17+ppg in Big Ten Conference play), 4.8 rebounds (2nd on team) and 2.1 assists per game. His return helped lead Purdue to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament, eventually losing to NCAA champions, Florida. He recorded his career high 32 points against Indiana on February 15, 2007. Teague was named 2nd Team All Big Ten his senior year. Seen as a threat beyond the 3 point line as a spot shooter, he had a high percentage off-the-dribble jump shot. On the defensive end, Teague was usually guarded and matched up with the opposing team's higher profile players. Currently, he is second in school history in 3 point fg, behind Jaraan Cornell and surpassed his assistant coach, Cuonzo Martin's, 179 mark.

2007-Current

Teague signed a contract with AEL 1964 in the summer of 2007. He competed with AEL in the Greek League during the A1 Ethniki 2007-08 season.
