Shaw High School is a public high school located in East Cleveland, Ohio. The school was recently renovated in 2005, completed in early 2007 in time for fall registration. The school has over 1200 students and is the only high school in the East Cleveland School district.

  • Meran Chang, class of 2001, Famous world traveler, Master of Nonprofit Organizations May 2009 candidate.

"Living Single" as Overton Wakefield Jones. Overton also hailed from the Cleveland area and was an avid Cleveland Browns fan.

  • Kenneth Rogers 1980, Singer and Recording Artist Nicknamed CeCe by James Brown and is one of the most successful male vocalist in House music, CeCe Rogers (aka Kenneth Rogers) is best known for offering his gospel-trained vocal talents to the Marshall Jefferson -mixed track "Someday" in 1987. Embodying all things soulful, Rogers house tracks remain classics of the genre, as they represent the optimistic vision and the positivity producing quality so inherent to the since splintered style


  • Jeff Janning, Recording Artist/Singer/Songwriter,Music Journalist wrote songs for (singer)Engelbert Humperdinck, Wayne Newton, and Anthony Newley, ABC TV Network and TV Show Bob Uecker's Wacky World of Sports. Currently has two CDs released. As a Journalist, wrote "Fresh Sounds" 20 years for (The American Publishing Co) and "Studio Splices" 6 years for Music Connection. Cleveland Music Innovator; First Cleveland Surf Band, First Cleveland Psychedelic Jam Band and First in Cleveland to use a Guitar Rig.
  • Wayne Dawson: local TV host for Fox 8 in the morning is a graduate of Shaw High School and an avid Shaw band fan
  • Tom King Musician/Songwriter/recording artist; Founder of the Outsiders who topped the music charts with a national hit "Time Wont Let Me". He also had an earlier band called "Tom King & The Starfires". Lived on Shaw Ave and 133rd Street.
  • Buzzy Linhart Recording Artist/Singer/Songwriter. Recorded numerous albums for Roulette & Kama Sutra Records. Wrote "You Got To Have Friends", a hit for Bette Midler.
  • Anthony M. Travis [1988] Writer, Director, Movie Producer. Hollywood Black Film Festival Award Winner. Works with new and upcoming actors. Works with television, movie, and video productions.
  • Dr. Michael A. Janning, Class of June, 1960. Podiatrist (D.P.M.)(Retired), Multiple Awards and Honors from Boy Scouts of America, Past President of Cedar Center Plaza Association, Listed in National Directory of Who's Who in Executives and Professionals (1994), Co-Authored "After Nail Surgery - A Better Post-Op Option" in Podiatric Products for April 1998

Trivia

  • In 2008, the school's band, was asked to participate in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. After months of trying to raise the funds, they met and exceeded their goal allowing the band to purchase new, cooler uniforms to prepare for China's heat. Key Bank and General Electric made sizable donations. GE giving over $30,000 and Key Bank providing all members with free iPods and digital cameras. The school's need for funds was publicized on many local television and radio stations.
  • The school was completely demolished and rebuilt, opening its doors in time for the 2007-2008 academic term.
