The Aspendos theatre

The Aspendos International Opera and Ballet Festival has been organized by the Turkish State Opera and Ballet directorate since 1994 with international participation by opera and ballet companies from several different countries. The festival is held annually each June and July in the two thousand year old ancient Roman Aspendos Theatre of Aspendos, near Antalya, Turkey. The theatre is noted as one of the best preserved antique theatres in the world, with many original features of the building remaining intact.

A wide variety of productions were presented, including:

Aida (Giuseppe Verdi), La Bayadere (Léon Minkus), Carmen (Georges Bizet), and Carmina Burana (Carl Orff), all by the Ankara State Opera and Ballet.

Il Trovatore (Giuseppe Verdi) by the Mersin State Opera and Ballet.

Winds in the Void Cello Suites (Johann Sebastian Bach) by the Zürich Ballet, Switzerland

Jivago / Zhivago (Alexander Borodin) by the İzmir State Opera and Ballet.

The Magic Flute (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart) by the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Germany

Emrah and Selvihan (Çetin Işıközlü) and Otello (Giuseppe Verdi) both by the İstanbul State Opera and Ballet.

Manon (Jules Massenet) by the The Royal Ballet, London, United Kingdom.
