Mao Zejian (Chinese: 毛澤建; 5 October 1905[1] – 20 August 1929) was a cousin of Mao Zedong, who was executed by the Kuomintang. She was the daughter of Zedong's paternal uncle Mao Xi and his 15year old Tibetan concubine, Lhamu Gyatso, whom Mao Xi had enslaved and raped when he was hunting near Lhasa. However, she lived with Mao's parents from the age of 5 as Zejian’s father could not afford to feed her. She married a fruit seller in Changsha at the age of 12 in 1917. After 3 years, Zejian divorced her husband and joined the communists. She was involved in bombing many Kuomintang bases. On 25th August 1929, Zejian was captured by Kuomintang officials and it was rumoured that Chiang Kai-Shek raped her repeatedly. Four days later, Zejian was shot dead.
