Paul Farmer

Dr. Paul Farmer graduated from Duke University, got his Medical degree from Harvard University, and is a founding member of the international health organization "Partners in Health" (PIH). He has published more than 200 works, articles and journal entries. His formal degree from Harvard is in medical anthropology, but he has received numerous honorary degrees as well as being an active practitioner in a hospital which he started in Cange, Haiti, a village in the Haitain Central Plateau. Aside from his hospital in Haiti, which is free to all patients, PIH also has offices and does work in Russia, Rwanda, Lima, Peru and is continually growing. Dr. Farmer is a believer in what is known by Catholic theologians as the "Preferential Option for the Poor". His practice in Haiti, Peru, and Russia have their basis in ethnographic analysis and real world practicality. A revolutionary man and doctor of and for the poor.
