Paulo Jorge Sousa Gomes (born 4 March 1975 in Viseu) is a Portuguese retired footballer who played as a defensive midfielder.
Football career
During his Portuguese career Gomes represented C.D. Tondela, Académico de Viseu, A.D. Lousada, Vitória de Guimarães, Sporting Clube de Braga, União Desportiva de Leiria, F.C. Paços de Ferreira and F.C. Penafiel.
He made his first division debut for Guimarães, against S.C. Salgueiros in a 3–2 loss, on 12 September 1998 – coach Zoran Filipović handed him his first chance. Almost ten years later he contributed with two league games as Paços achieved an historical qualification to the UEFA Cup, but finished the season at Penafiel in the second level.
In 2008–09 Gomes moved abroad, signing with Cypriot outfit Atromitos Yeroskipou joining, among other compatriots, former Leiria defender Hugo Costa. After only one season he returned to Portugal and Viseu (with the club now in division three), retiring in June 2010 at the age of 35.
