Sarai Sanchez Castillo (born 28 July 1981) is a Venezuelan chess player who hold the titles of Woman Grandmaster (WGM, 2007) and International Master (IM, 2010).

Biography

From 1998 to 2001 Sarai Sanchez Castillo played for Venezuela at the World Youth Chess Championship in different age groups, where the best result was shown in 1999 in Oropesa del Mar, when she ranked 9th in the age group U18[1]. In 2001, in Cusco became the winner of the Pan American Girl's Chess Championship in the age group U20. In 2007, in San Luis she was the second in Pan American Women's Chess Championship after losing an additional match against Marisa Zuriel[2]. In 2008, in Nalchik Sarai Sanchez Castillo participated in the Women's World Chess Championship 2008, where in the first round lost Pia Cramling[3]. In 2009, in Cali she took third place in the Pan American Women's Chess Championship[4].

Played for Venezuela at eight Women's Chess Olympiads (2000-2016) and won individual bronze (2006) medal[5].

In 2007, she was awarded the FIDE International Women Grandmaster (WGM) title and received the FIDE International Master (IM) title three year later.[6] Sarai Sanchez Castillo was the first women among Venezuelan chess players, who was awarded the title of International Women Grandmaster. Also she is FIDE Arbiter (2014) and International Organizer (2017).
