Professor Tim Darvill OBE is an emminent English archaeologist known for his work in the legal framework of archaeology and as a prehistorian, notably his work with Geoff Wainwright excavating at Stonehenge in the summer of 2008. In 2010 he was awarded the OBE for services to archaeology.

Early years

Tim was born and raised in the Costwolds and has continued to contribute to the local archaeology scene including being chair of the Costwold Archaeology Trust.

Career

Bournemouth University (1991 - Present) In 1991, Tim took up the Chair of Archaeology in the newly-established archaeology group at BU. His work has consisted mainly of prehistory projects such as the Billown excavations and excavations at Stonehenge in 2008. Tim also managed the Monuments at Risk Survey which was commissioned by English Heritage.to study the changing state of England’s archaeological resource.

In 2006, Tim was awarded the National Award for the protection of the archaeological heritage of Russia.

Personal life

Tim is a keen guitarist and plays lead guitar in a band consisting of several other archaeologists.
