Club Social, Deportivo y Cultural Español are football club from Buenos Aires in Argentina. They currently play in the Primera B Metropolitana, which is the regionalised third tier of Argentine football. They are commonly referred to as either Deportivo Español or Social Español.
The club were founded in 1957 with the name Club Deportivo Español, the date October 12th was chosen as thier foundation date to commemorate the discovery of the new world by Christopher Columbus.
The club made quick progress through the lower leagues arriving in the Primera in spectacular style in the 1985/86 season, they finished in third place, a feat they would achieve twice more in the 1988/89 season and in the Clausura tournament of 1992.
The club were relegated from the Primera at the end of the 1997/98 season, since then they have played in the 2nd and 3rd tiers of Argentine football.
Following their relegation to Primera B Metropolitana in 2003 the club was declared bankrupt and disbanded, but the fans got together to recreate the club under its new name Club Social, Deportivo y Cultural Español, fortunately the Argentine Football Association allowed the new club to take over the fixtures of the old one.
