The Estadio Nueva España is a football stadium in the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires . It is the home ground of the Deportivo Español football club . The Estadio Nueva España can now accommodate 34,500 spectators.
history
The Estadio Nueva España in Buenos Aires opened on February 12, 1981. For the first game, Deportivo Español and the Spanish club Deportivo La Coruña met in a friendly, which the hosts won 1-0 with a goal from Walter Corvo. Since that day, Deportivo Español has been using the facility as a venue for its home games. At its heyday, the club played in the Primera División for a few years and reached third place in the table three times. After relegation to the second and third leagues and the dissolution due to severe financial problems, the club was re-established in 2003 and currently plays in the third-class Primera B Metropolitano, where they are, however, in the lower table regions.
After the bankruptcy of Deportivo Español it stood empty for some time and was closed in 2007 in extremely poor condition, with bushes in the middle and grazing animals on the edge, and was demolished a little later. In place of the old stadium, Deportivo Español built a new stadium, which is very modern and based on the European model, i.e. as an arena. The stadium is held in the colors of Spain and the national colors of Argentina can also be found.
