Casona de los Olivera - Parque Avellaneda

The history of the district begins when in 1755 the area of today's Parque Avellaneda was transferred to the Hermandad (Brotherhood) de la Santa Caridad de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo , who built a chapel there. In 1822 the brotherhood transferred their property to the “Sociedad de Beneficencia” (charity), which in turn sold it in 1828 to Don Domingo Olivera. Don Olivera, one of the largest landowners in the area, set up an agricultural research institute there. On March 7, 1912, the city bought the property from the Olivera family and opened a 30- hectare public park on March 28, 1914 , then still under the name "Olivera". On November 14th of the same year the park was given its current name " Parque Avellaneda " and the surrounding district was then named after the park.
