Villa Luro

Villa Luro is a district in the west of the Argentine capital Buenos Aires . The district is 2.6 km² and belongs to Comuna C10. From 1991 to 2001 the population increased from 30,753 to 33,058 people, which corresponds to an increase of 7.5 percent.

Villa Luro was named after the doctor and building contractor Dr. Pedro Luro, who in the 1870s divided and sold his land in the area. Luro was also involved in the development of the seaside resort of Mar del Plata . The first inhabitants of the neighborhood included Italian , Spanish , Portuguese and Basque immigrants. Today Villa Luro is a quiet part of the city with suburban character and low houses. Villa Luro is home to the Club Atlético Stentor. Before moving to the neighboring Liniers district, the CA Vélez Sársfield stadium was located in Villa Luro.

The district is bordered by the following streets: Avenida Emilio Castro, Escalada, Avenida Juan B. Alberdi, Medina, Avenida Rivadavia , Avenida Canónigo Miguel Calixto del Corro, Avenida Juan B. Justo , Avenida Lope de Vega, Avenida Álvarez Jonte, Bacacay, Irigoyen, Ferrocarril Domingo F. Sarmiento, Anselmo Sáenz Valiente and Albariño railway tracks.

Every year on December 1st, the district day is celebrated, in 2011 for the 100th time.
