Boedo is a district of the Argentine capital Buenos Aires . It is 2.6 km² and has 48,520 inhabitants (as of 2001). The population density corresponds to 18,662 inhabitants per km².

Boedo is located southeast of the geographical center and borders Almagro to the north, San Cristóbal and Parque Patricios to the east, Nueva Pompeya to the south and Parque Chacabuco to the west . The main streets of the district are Boedo to the south, San Juan / Directorio to the east and Independencia / Alberdi to the west.

Boedo is a working-class neighborhood. It was named after Dr. Mariano Joaquín Boedo , a leader in the Argentine independence movement.

The intersection (Spanish "Esquina") of the main streets Calle Boedo and Calle San Juan is mentioned in the Tango Sur , one of the most popular songs about Buenos Aires. It was named after the composer of the song ( Homero Manzi ) and is the setting for tango festivals. On Avenida San Juan is the Esquina Homero Manzi café , which has been named Sitio Histórico Nacional by Law No. 24,704 . Boedo also has several cultural centers and theaters.

The Boedo Group was a group of literary figures in the 1920s. Well-known members of the group were Enrique Amorim , Leónidas Barletta , Elías Castelnuovo , Roberto Mariani , Nicolás Olivari , Lorenzo Stanchina , César Tiempo and Álvaro Yunque .

The football club San Lorenzo from Buenos Aires feels closely connected to this district, which is reflected in the fan song “Vengo del barrio de Boedo” (“I come from the district of Boedo”).
