history

In 1827, the village of Chorroarín was founded on the area of today's Villa Ortúzar, and German immigrants also moved to it. Later immigrants from the Canary Islands also came. On April 26, 1862, Don Santos Muguerza sold 26 parcels to Don Santiago de Ortúzar along today's Av. Triunvirato, Tronador, A. Thomas and Av. Elcano. The new owner has roads laid and trees planted. He's also having a house built in the area for himself. Because of the large dovecotes, the place is also called "Palomar de Ortúzar".

The cemetery was opened in 1871, and a horse tram was opened in 1875. Since 2003, Villa Ortúzar has been connected to the city's underground network (Subte B).

In memory of him, the later town was named after Ortúzar and the district day is celebrated every year on April 26th.

Today you can find large houses with gardens and important buildings along the Avenida de los Incas, while in other parts of the district you can find simple and low-rise apartment buildings. Part of the Universidad Tecnológica Nacional is also located in the district.
