Villa Pueyrredón is a district in the northwest of the Argentine capital Buenos Aires . It has 40,000 inhabitants (as of 2001) on an area of ​​3.7 km² and is bordered by the districts of Villa Urquiza , Villa Devoto , Coghlan and Agronomía . Villa Pueyrredón is a middle class and upper middle class residential area and is surrounded by numerous squares and parks. The Ferrocarril General Bartolomé Miter (General Miter Railway Company) connects Villa Pueyrredón with the Retiro train station.

history

The district got its name from the first station on the new railway line of the Ferrocarril Central Argentino , (today "Ferrocarril General Bartolomé Miter"). At first the station was called simply "KM 14" (kilometer 14), but was then named in 1907 after Juan Martín de Pueyrredón . The residents of the district were Italian and Spanish immigrants who worked on the “Great Railway Project”, one of the most important in South America.

Clubs, parks and squares

Villa Pueyrredón has numerous green spaces. The oldest, Plaza Leandro N. Alem, was inaugurated on May 25, 1921. He's between the streets of Larsen, Grail. J. de Artigas, Zamudio and Cochrane. Nunca Más square is 11,500 m² and is located between Obispo San Alberto, Ladines, Jose L. Cabezon and Gral streets. Jose G. de Artigas. The "Club Cultural y Deportivo 17 de Agosto" was founded in 1949. It is the most important club in the neighborhood and plays in the first division of futsal .

The “Club Social Pueyrredón” was founded on June 1st, 1927 and is located at 5540 Condarco Street. The "Club Social, Cultural y Deportivo Gloria" was founded on September 16, 1936. It is now based at 4970 Caracas Street. There are also two other sports clubs.
