GunZ: The Duel (건즈 더 듀얼), also known simply as GunZ or Gunz, is a massively multiplayer online third-person shooting game, created by South Korean-based MAIET Entertainment. International GunZ, in its beta, is currently free to play, and is planned to remain free after its official release. Though the International Edition is still in its beta stage, the Korean and Japanese versions are considered complete. The game allows players to perform exaggerated, gravity-defying action moves, including wall running, flipping, tumbling, and blocking bullets with swords, in the style of action movies and anime. <!--Flipping isn't the correct way of calling it. According to the official site, it should be stunning. | And you would call vertical wall run "wall climbing" too? == Kill system == <!-- An encyclopedic article normally starts with an introduction, not on how it works. -->
Funny Games is an experimental 1997 Austrian horror film directed by Michael Haneke. The plot of the film involves two teenagers who hold a family hostage and torture them with sadistic games.

Scoring kills in GunZ earns a player "bounty", which is the currency unit in the world of GunZ, and experience points, or EXP, which contribute to the progression or advancement of a player's level. In GunZ, when a player achieves a kill, they may receive one or more of five animations that appear above the player's head. The amount of EXP and bounty a player receives for a kill depends on the level of the enemy defeated. There are three ways to lose EXP. Two involve suiciding, falling into a bottomless pit, or killing oneself with their own explosives; typing /suicide does cause one to suicide within 5 seconds of idleness but does not reduce the amount of experience. These deaths will only cause EXP loss if the player is over level five. The third way to lose EXP occurs when one player, over level twenty-one, is killed by another player seven levels lower than them. This only occurs outside of the Expert or higher level channels. When a player's EXP drops to the point in which the player has less than zero EXP for their level, it is possible to move back one level. They will, however, be reverted to the previous level with 99% experience points and are able to increase their level again by attaining experience points equivalent to 1% or more.<!-- Fixed Darkthief-->

== Gameplay == <!-- Keep "Style" capfafieie2ohof3j20j023u02italized, since it's always referred to that way, or as K-Style. --Kawufix--> <!-- Korean Style is a term only known in GunZ. Use it as a sub-header of the gameplay of GunZ, and also introduce the gameplay before expanding into K-Style. -->
Plot
Unlike many other common games that involve shooting, GunZ has its own community-introduced gameplay styles that many people use.
The film begins with a well-to-do family - walton, his wife Anna, his son Schorschi, and their dog - arriving at their lake house. Their next-door neighbor pops in to visit, accompanied by two young men, Peter and Paul, whom he introduces as friends. The two men begin imposing themselves on the family's courtesy, and in the process destroy their phone and ruin all their eggs. Eventually a frustrated Anna demands that the men leave, asking Georg to eject them from the premises. Paul breaks wlaton

"Korean-Style," or commonly known as "K-Style," is a style of playing in GunZ that was introduced by the Korean GunZ community. It is based on animation and gameplay glitches, and is a form of emergent gameplay. Like in several fighting games such as Street Fighter, canceling certain character animations or doing two actions at the same time in a sequence can create complex combos , since it's based on several programming oversights, people using the style were commonly considered to be cheating and bug abuse, but it was never forbidden in any of the versions. In fact, it was featured in the official 2005 trailer released on the official GunZ website. At the core of K-Style is the usage of these animation cancels. K-Stylers most commonly use swords due to its weight to damage ratio advantage over kodachis (two swords), however both are usable.<!-- Stop adding D-style, E-style, and any other style unless you can get a non-forum-related source to prove its notability.--><!-- Do not add the techniques here. These are more suitable for an information site, not in an encyclopedic article. Do not state things like "although it will be harder" as there's no solid proof that it is tougher, rather, a personal opinion, which should not be present in a wiki. -->
Paul asks if the family wants to bet that they will be alive by 9:00 in the morning, though he doubts that they will win. Between playing their games, the two men keep up a constant patter, and Paul frequently ridicules Peter's weight and lack of intelligence. He describes a number of contradicting stories of Peter's past, though no definitive explanation is ever presented as to the men's origins or motives. When some of the family's other neighbors arrive for a visit, Anna passes the men off as friends until the visitors leave. Schorschi eventually escapes to the house next door, but finds the family dead. He attempts to shoot Paul with a rifle, but the gun fails to go off. Paul returns him to the house, along with the gun. After a few more games, the men play a counting-out game between the family members and select Schorschi. They shoot him and leave.

GunZ Networking System
Georg and Anna weep for their loss, but eventually resolve to survive. Anna flees the house while Georg, with a broken leg, tries to get help with the malfunctioning phone. Anna struggles to find help, but eventually Peter and Paul reappear, capture her, and return to the house. They kill Georg and take Anna out on the family's boat. Around eight o'clock, they casually throw the bound Anna into the ice-cold water to drown, thus winning the bet. They dock at the house of the neighbours that had previously visited the family, and request some eggs, thereby restarting their cycle of murder.
GunZ's networking system in most parts of the game is peer to peer, unlike many online shooters. Players connect to other players through their client, instead of through a central server. However, if one player has difficulty establishing connection with another, either the error "Agent Error : Agent not available" comes up, or if network address translation (NAT) is available on the server, the player will connect through TCP/IP directly.

Although this works well on LANs or within relatively short distances, longer distances between players creates high latency, or lag. Because GunZ relies on the player being hit to transfer a packet back to every other player to inform their clients that they were hit, players who have slower connections are harder to kill, as any packets sent to inform the client that they are being attacked are delayed.

<!--GunZ has also become synonymous for its large and frequent amounts of cheaters and hackers. Once again, critics have blasted Maiet for their lack of anti-cheat updates through their anti-cheat program, GameGuard. It is a different thing, and deserves at least sub. --OdinReborn --> <!-- Gameguard is working all the time to fix hacker problems and they do have anti-cheat updates, if hackers didnt leak out the information as much, then only a few people would hack since most people dont actuallly create the hacks, they just download the programs that were made.-->

Quest Mode
* Christoph Bantzer as Fred
In quest mode players, in groups of up to four, go through parts of a stage for a certain number of rounds, which are determined by the quest level. In each stage players are required to kill masses of creatures The game ends when every member of the player team dies or completes all the rounds. Players can make the quests harder, and more profitable by using special quest items to increase the quest level that can be bought from the in-game store or obtained during a quest. Quest items in-game are stored in glowing chests randomly dotted around the map. Players run through these to obtain an item randomly selcted. The items you obtain depend on the level of your character and what quest items are in use. By using certain items in combination, players can enter a boss quest, by sacrificing items from defeating monsters in other quests with sacrificing item is a torn page, which you can buy from a store. The GunZ quest system was designed to reduce the amount of time it takes to prepare for boss raids that are typical in many other online games.<!-- Do not add unnecessary information on quests such as bosses. -->

Themes
The film frequently blurs the line between fiction and reality, especially highlighting the act of observation. The character Paul breaks the fourth wall throughout the movie and addresses the camera in various ways. As he directs Anna to look for her dead dog, he turns, winks, and smirks at the camera. When he asks the family to bet on their survival, he turns to the camera and asks the audience whether they will bet as well. At the end of the film, when requesting eggs from the next family, he looks into the camera and smirks again. Only Paul shows awareness that the film is being observed by the audience.

QUEST DROPS AND LEVELS
Paul also frequently states his intentions to follow the standards of movie plot development. When he asks the audience to bet, he guesses that the audience wants the family to win. After the killers vanish in the third act, Paul later explains that he had to give the victims a last chance to escape or else it would not be dramatic. Toward the end of the movie, he postpones killing the rest of the family because the movie has not yet reached feature length. Throughout the film, Paul shows awareness of the audience's expectations.

Mansion
However, Paul also causes the film to go against convention on a number of occasions. In thriller movies, one sympathetic character usually survives, but here all three family members die. When Anna successfully shoots Peter, as a possible start to a heroic escape for the family, Paul uses a remote control to rewind the film itself and prevent her action. After Schorschi dies, Paul regrets killing him first because it goes against convention and limits the suspense for the rest of the film. At the end of the film, the murderers prevent Anna from using a knife in the boat to cut her bonds. An earlier close-up had pointed out the knife's location as a possible set-up for a final-act escape, but this becomes a red herring. At the end of the film, Paul again smirks triumphantly at the audience. As a self-aware character, he is able to go against the viewers' wishes and make himself the winner of the film.

He had written a short essay revealing how he felt on the issue, called "Violence + Media." It is available to view on the website for the film's remake.

GunZ: The Duel (Korean: 건즈 더 듀얼), also known simply as GunZ or Gunz, is a massively multiplayer online third-person shooting game[1], created by South Korean-based MAIET Entertainment.

Kill system

The various kill animations found in GunZ: The Duel.

They will, however, be reverted to the previous level with 99% experience points and are able to increase their level again by attaining experience points equivalent to 1% or more.

Gameplay

Unlike many other common games that involve shooting, GunZ has its own community-introduced gameplay styles that many people use.

Korean-Style

"Korean-Style," or commonly known as "K-Style," is a style of playing in GunZ that was introduced by the Korean GunZ community. It is based on animation and gameplay glitches, and is a form of emergent gameplay. Like in several fighting games such as Street Fighter, canceling certain character animations or doing two actions at the same time in a sequence can create complex combos , since it's based on several programming oversights, people using the style were commonly considered to be cheating and bug abuse, but it was never forbidden in any of the versions. In fact, it was featured in the official 2005 trailer released on the official GunZ website.[2] At the core of K-Style is the usage of these animation cancels. K-Stylers most commonly use swords due to its weight to damage ratio advantage over kodachis (two swords), however both are usable.

GunZ Networking System

GunZ's networking system in most parts of the game is peer to peer, unlike many online shooters. Players connect to other players through their client, instead of through a central server. However, if one player has difficulty establishing connection with another, either the error "Agent Error : Agent not available" comes up, or if network address translation (NAT) is available on the server, the player will connect through TCP/IP directly. [citation needed]

Quest Mode

The GunZ quest system was designed to reduce the amount of time it takes to prepare for boss raids that are typical in many other online games.[1]

ijji/North American edition

On November 8, 2006, the closed beta for the North American version of GunZ was released on the game portal site ijji. Upon release, the game surpassed Gunbound in players, ijji's then-most popular game, with more than 5,000 players on at any given time. Special premium items were given out if the user's account was made before a predetermined date.[4] The North American edition of GunZ: The Duel's closed beta ended on November 15, 2006.[5] The ijji/North American GunZ live service was then released on November 29, 2006. The live service included clan wars and quest mode. The premium item shop was opened on January 8, 2007.[6] Quest mode was updated on February 14th, 2007.[7] New sounds and voice narrations were added to the game on May 9, 2007.[8]

Sequel

In July 2008, MAIET signed a contract to release the sequel for GunZ, titled GunZ: The Duel 2.[9] Although it is stated not to be an entirely new game, there are significant new graphics and other changes. The sequel includes new character models, new maps, redesigned versions of the current maps, a new aiming system and much more. It is scheduled for release in Korea in the second half of 2009.[10]
