Goneplax rhomboides and its relatives are likely to be moved to the Goneplacoidea

Xanthoidea is a superfamily of crabs. As presented here, it includes the Goneplacoidea, Hexapodoidea, Pilumnoidea, Pseudozioidea and Trapezioidea, though this arrangement has been questioned in recent studies. It is almost certain that some of these proposed superfamilies will eventually gain general acceptance.[1]

The swimming crabs (Portunoidea) are close relatives, and their relationship to the different lineages of Xanthoidea in the wide delimitation is likely to determine the eventual taxonomic fate of the latter[1]. The family Hexapodidae and the recently-validated Mathildellidae for example have been occasionally included in the Portunoidea, while the deepsea crabs (Geryonidae) are usually placed in the Portunoidea but sometimes in the Xanthoidea.

Systematics

Due to the massive taxonomic uncertainties surrounding this superfamily, the list presented here is very preliminary.
