Macau International Airport
Macau International Airport (澳門國際機場) is the only airport in the Macau Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China. It uses the IATA airport code MFM and ICAO airport code VMMC.
The airport's runway was built on a strip of reclaimed land in the sea, adjacent to Taipa Island, where the main terminal and air traffic control facilities are located. The runway is connected to the apron by two bridges.
Despite its small physical size, the airport is capable of handling Boeing 747s, which form a vital freight link between local manufacturers and overseas markets. Macau International is also the hub for international carrier Air Macau and helicopter operator East Asia Airlines, as well as the main operations base for the JetAsia air charter company.
The airport is a common transfer point for people traveling between the mainland of People's Republic of China and Republic of China (Taiwan), and is also one of the only world airports with direct flights to North Korea.
Macao is independent member at civil aviation organisations and airport council, and maintains its own economic policies. It comes up with bilateral aviation agreements at its own. Macau-mainland China flights are considered non-domestic (i.e. international) and reaches international but not domestic airports, such as Pudong but not Hongqiao at Shanghai. In other words, all flights from and to this airport are international, no flight is domestic.
