Ágúst Guðmundsson
Ágúst Guðmundsson (born June 29, 1947 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic film director , producer and screenwriter . With his debut film Land and Sons (Land og synir) , he marked the international breakthrough of Icelandic film in 1980 .
biography
Ágúst studied French and Icelandic in the Icelandic capital Reykjavík . He trained as an actor and studied directing at the National Film School in London . In Iceland he worked for television.
In 1980 his feature film debut Land und Sons (Land og synir) was released ; an initial spark for the Icelandic film landscape. His second film The Outlaw - The Gisli Saga (Útlaginn) from 1981 was also internationally successful. In 1985 Ágúst received the Lübeck film lens for his political satire Goldsand (Gullsandur) . His film The Dance (Dansinn, 1998) won the directing award at the Moscow Film Festival. Successful was The Seagull's Laughter (Mávahlátur) , the Icelandic contenders for the Academy Awards 2002 .
Among other things, Ágúst realized the six-part Christmas series Nonni und Manni (1988/89) for television with ZDF . Ágúst is president of the Association of Icelandic Artists BÍL ( Bandalag Íslenskra Listamanna ), founded in 1928 .
