Player career

Albacete

In his first season as a professional footballer , Álvario Rubio , who came from the youth of Real Saragossa , made 17 appearances at Albacete Balompié in the Segunda División. In the following year he became an indispensable part of the team with 34 games. In the 2002/03 season Albacete reached promotion to the first division. Álvaro Rubio was now less used, but still with more than 20 games each, quite regularly. However, the club only stayed in the Primera División for two years and had to return to League 2 in 2004/05. In the following season Álvaro Rubio fought back his regular place and played a total of 36 times. At the end of the season, the club came in a disappointing 13th place.

Valladolid

In the summer of 2006, Álvaro Rubio decided to move to Real Valladolid because of the better prospects. There, too, he had a regular place in midfield and played a major role in the promotion of his new team. He scored his first two league goals for Valladolid this season. Also in the Primera División he was indispensable in the midfield of the promoted team. In the seasons 2007/08 and 2008/09 as well as in the first half of the 2009/10 season he was a regular before an injury stopped him. As a result, he could no longer intervene in the second half of the season and had to sit by and watch as his club was relegated to the Segunda División . There he celebrated his comeback on the first day of the 2010/11 season and is again a regular for the team.
