Ángel Gabilondo
Ángel Gabilondo Pujol (born March 1, 1949 in San Sebastián ) is a Spanish philosopher and politician . From April 2009 to December 2011 he was the Spanish Minister of Education in the Zapatero cabinet .
Life
Ángel Gabilondo was born in 1949 as the fifth of nine children to a butcher. One of his brothers is the journalist Iñaki Gabilondo . As a child he attended a school run by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and was then a member of the fraternity. He completed his philosophy studies at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in 1980 and then taught philosophy there. In 1983 he received his doctorate with a thesis on Hegel and in 1986 became the profesor titular de Filosofía , 2001 catedrático de Metafísica appointed. He was elected Rector of the University of Madrid in 2002 and re-elected in 2006.
On April 7, 2009, he was appointed Minister of Education as successor to Mercedes Cabrera .
