Aegidi cemetery
The Aegidiifriedhof is a cemetery in the city of Quedlinburg in Saxony-Anhalt .
location
The cemetery grounds are located northwest of the historic Quedlinburg old town, west of the Ziegelhohlweg. The cemetery is registered in the Quedlinburg monument register.
Architecture and history
The cemetery was laid out in the middle of the 19th century as a replacement for the cemetery in the vicinity of the Sankt Gogidii Church , which had been abandoned at that time.
A path lined with linden trees was laid out from the main entrance to the west through the cemetery area . Later, a memorial designed as a fountain was created as a focal point. In large parts of the cemetery, the graves are enclosed by hedges. This horticultural design goes back to the end of the 19th century.
The cemetery is surrounded by a sandstone wall , in which a gate system with a cast iron gate is integrated.
