Aegidius Maria of Saint Joseph
Aegidius Maria von Saint Joseph (civil: Franziskus Pontillo ; born November 16, 1729 in Taranto , † February 7, 1812 in Naples ) was an Italian Franciscan and saint of the Roman Catholic Church .
Pontillo, who previously worked as a craftsman, joined the Franciscan order at the age of 24 and was given the name of the order Aegidius Maria of Saint Joseph . From 1759 he lived in a convent of his order in Naples. Aegidius worked within the community as a cook, caretaker and beggar brother. He also cared for the sick.
Aegidius was born in 1888 by Pope Leo XIII. Beatified and canonized by Pope John Paul II in 1996 .
