Æðey (Eng. " Eider Island") is an island in the north-west of Iceland . It is located in the north-eastern part of the large Ísafjarðardjúp fjord and lies in front of the Snæfjallaströnd coastline .

Æðey is 2.2 km long and 0.8 km wide. With an area of 1.26 km², it is the largest island in the fjord. At its highest point, it rises 34 m above the sea surface. The island has been inhabited since the Middle Ages and there is still a farm on it today.

Similar to the island of Vigur , located near the south bank of Djup, this island is also a bird paradise. Above all, you will find many breeding sites for eider ducks and this is where the island takes its name. The farmers maintain these breeding grounds and receive considerable additional income from the sale of the down. There are also large puffin colonies on the island.

There has also been a weather station on the island since 1946.

In the summer there is a regular boat connection to Ísafjörður .
