Æthelred, Earl of Fife
Æthelred, Earl of Fife († before 1107) was a Scottish nobleman.
Æthelred was the third or fourth son of the Scottish King Malcolm III. and from his wife Margareta . Little is known about his life. According to a later created charter he is the first Earl of Fife and is said to have handed over possessions in Fife to the Culdeer of Loch Leven around 1095 . It is possible, however, that he was not an Earl in the later sense, but only received temporary income from Fife, since he is also said to have been Abbot of Dunkeld . Perhaps the writer of the document even confused Fife with another region, but this is considered unlikely.
Æthelred's life dates are unknown. Before 1107, Constantine Macduff received his possessions and is known as the Earl of Fife.
