history

The training center was founded as a nursing school by a decree of June 8, 1964 and started operating on January 1, 1965. Its name was initially École Nationale des Infirmiers et Infirmières (ENI). With the founding, the then President Hamani Diori aimed to improve health care in the rural regions of the country. It was initially a non-academic two-year course.

The ENI was transformed into the École Nationale de Santé Publique (ENSP) on October 10, 1970 . The training was extended to three years and additional health professions, particularly in maternity care, were added. Since 1984, a Baccalauréat has been a possible requirement for admission to the course for most branches. On May 25, 2016, the college was renamed École Nationale de Santé Publique Damouré Zika (ENSP / DZ) after the actor and healer Damouré Zika (1924–2009) .
