The École supérieure d'art et de design de Marseille-Méditerranée (ESADMM) is an art school founded in 1752 in Marseille .
history
Until January 2012 the art college was called École supérieure des beaux-arts de Marseille (ESBAM). It was founded in 1752 at the instigation of artists from the region under the patronage of the Governor of Provence . At that time it was in the Saint Bernard monastery , next to the Lycée Thiers . When the old premises became too small, the school moved to the neighboring Espérandieu building in 1874, which is adjacent to the city library and the music academy. In the 1960s, the city of Marseille and the state agreed to relocate the university and integrate it into the campus of the University of Aix-Marseille in Luminy. The new school was inaugurated on March 4, 1969.

ESBAM's curricula are approved by the Ministry of Culture and Communication, while the certificates and diplomas issued by the university are governmental. Currently (as of 2010) around four hundred students are enrolled, and another seven hundred pupils visit ESBAM's public studios in the city. There are regular exhibitions in the galleries in Luminy and downtown.
The school wants to combine tradition and modernity and tries to overcome the boundaries between the individual disciplines. It sees itself as an experimental field for the students. The diversity of the faculty's skills and qualifications (artists of all disciplines, art theorists, technicians, etc.) encourages different artistic approaches. The proximity to the University of Architecture and the partnership with other institutions also contribute to this.
ESBAM enjoys a privileged location on the university campus of Luminy. The students have over 6000 m 2 of studios, classrooms and exhibition rooms.
The director is Pierre Oudart.
Since January 2012, the university has had a different sponsorship and has adopted the new name, which also reflects the expanded tasks of the school.
