Édouard Michelin (industrialist, 1963)

Édouard Michelin (born August 13, 1963 in Clermont-Ferrand , † May 26, 2006 on the Île de Sein ) was a French manager and industrialist.

Michelin graduated from the École Centrale Paris elite school before joining the company that has been family-run since 1889. There he headed the North America business after several departments until he took over the management of the company from his father François Michelin in 1999 . The managing director and co-partner of the tire company Michelin drowned on a fishing trip near the Île de Sein on the French Atlantic coast. How the accident happened is not yet clear. He leaves behind his wife and six children. On May 31, 2006, the festive funeral service took place in Clermont-Ferrand .

In honor of Édouard Michelin, at the award ceremony in the subsequent Formula 1 race in Monaco, the drivers did without the usual champagne shower. The tire brand Michelin equipped several Formula 1 teams until 2006, including a. all teams represented on the podium, namely Renault F1 ( Fernando Alonso ), McLaren-Mercedes ( Juan Pablo Montoya ) and Red Bull Racing ( David Coulthard ).
