Élise Thiébaut (born March 12, 1962 in Marseille ) is a French author , journalist and feminist .

Live and act

Élise Thiébaut has written short stories , essays and non-fiction books . She is primarily concerned with the social position and political representation of women. Together with Agnès Boussuge , she wrote several books for young people on women in politics, intimate partner violence and genital mutilation. As a journalist she wrote for the Huffington Post and the feminist magazine Clara Magazine of Femmes solidaires.

In 2017 her book Ceci est mon sang, petite histoire des règles, de celles qui les ont et de ceux qui les font was published ("This is my blood. A little story of the rules - the women who have them and the men who they do ”), which has been translated into numerous languages. In it she tells a humorous story of menstruation and examines the associated taboos in religion , society , science and the economy that are still in effect today .

In her book Mes ancêtres les gauloises ("My ancestors, the Gauls"), published in 2019 , Élise Thiébaut outlines a history of France from a woman's point of view along the genealogical line of her female ancestors. On the occasion of the current discussion about the preservation of an "original French" identity, she shows on the basis of her own origin that there can be no talk of such an identity, but that the history of her family has always been shaped by migration, slave trade and environmental destruction.

Volunteering

Thiébaut is a member of the association Avocats sans frontières France (Lawyers Without Borders) and worked there to save Amina Lawal .
