Jean Émile Auguste Bernard (born November 28, 1843 in Marseille , † September 11, 1902 in Paris ) was a French composer and organist.

Life

Bernard studied organ at the Conservatoire de Paris with François Benoist and piano with Antoine François Marmontel . Between 1887 and 1895 he was the organist of the great Cavaillé-Coll organ in the Notre-Dame-des-Champs church on Rue Montparnasse, where he was succeeded by Camille Andrès after his death .

Bernard composed a. a. Works for chamber music, organ music and orchestral concertante works. With the Fantasia and Fugue for Organ he won the Prize of the Société de Compositeurs de Paris in 1877 . He dedicated his violin concerto to Pablo de Sarasate , who performed it in 1895 at the Conservatoire de Paris.
